Verify that both sides equal the same.

let cos^2x = a
let sin^2x = b

cos^4x+2cos^2x*sin^2x+sin^4x = a^2 +2ab + b^2 = (a+b)^2

considering i know sin^2x + cos^2x = 1
a + b = 1
therefore (a + b)^2 = 1^2 = 1
