Just like to add to myself. If these estimates are made using the Drake equation, there's no way it can be accurate as it uses averages, and the only averages we have are based on our own planet.

The Fermi Paradox is the worst misunderstanding of the definition of an "alien civilization" I have ever seen.

"Surely if there is intelligent life in the universe, they would be communicating with radio waves, and would have responded to the radio waves we've sent out that only reach a few dozen lightyears radius from our planet."

Facepalm. Shame on you, Enrico.

Estimations are nice and all, but what I really want to read is "Discovery on earth-like planet: Life-forms identified"

>mfw none of them have evolved life
>also mfw the fruity transhuman resource-based anarchotopia that explores the universe collapses because they realized life on earth was created by god and christian fundamentalists from the deep south who believe slavery should be reinstated were the wisest beings on earth

To be fair, look at the state of life.

It's pretty obvious that the master intelligence of this existence is pretty retarded, and it should make sense that the wisest sages formed in his image are also stump-fucking stupid.

This. They already deduced dinosaurs might become a threat to them. Wait till they see what the descendants of the measly little proto-shrews have come up since then.

Just because Fermi got other things right, doesn't mean he was right about this.

I've posted a list of reasons why an intelligent civilization withing 50ly of us wouldn't contact us.

Too tired to repost it, but the reasons were intuitive and not that difficult to follow.

If this thread is still up after I take a nap, I'll post it, assuming others haven't.

>oh yeah i've got a good reason why its wrong but but ...

when fermi said that he wasn't restricting him self to radio or even light
your analogy is wrong because it is as you pointed out
but it isn't the same as the fermi paradox so you've proved nothing
