Base-12 is superior to base-10 largely because it makes the common division by 3 (and 4) much simpler conceptually and less messy.

12 as a base is not too large (e.g. 60) and not to small (e.g. 2). If we could go back in time we should have chosen base-12.

Many native peoples use a logarithmic scale intuitively. There was a study that demonstrated that if you show two points representing 1 and 10 to civilized people and ask them to place another representing 5, they would place it more or less in the middle. Primitive tribesmen on the other hand, placed their points far closer to 10, arguing that five is several times larger than 1, but 10 is only twice as big as 5.
