why?

Cus no goddamn commie frog is gonna tell 'murica to use use reasonable units of measurement.

>> No.2652900

It's just difficult to get people to make changes... and probably because we're told that a paper clip weighs a gram and weighing things in paper clips is silly.

Ummm...the evidence kinda points to the contradictory.

kg is the standard unit, not g.

Last time I checked, the US still had the largest GDP of any country.

Then why is it misplaced? Shouldn't the mass assigned to kg be what's known a g.

It's a pretty silly flaw to have the standard unit be 1000 of the base unit. It'd be like us in the US measuring everything in tons instead of ounces

Because there is billions of dollars in infrastructure which makes use of imperial units. Altering or replacing that infrastructure costs money. Lots of money.

So why waste billions of dollars changing road signs, scales, etc. if it doesn't gain us anything. We only use Imperial for day-to-day stuff. Almost all of our science and engineering uses Metric.

Piss off and don't try to force your shit on us

Well, third world countries don't have a scientific establishment to speak of, so they simply adopt what Europe taught them.

The map in the OP assumes full adoption in the Anglosphere, which isn't even true.

There are billions (probably in the hundreds) uselessly wasted each year in maintenance of two septate sets of units.

For instance it costs $57,268 to launch 1 kg of cargo in the space shuttle and they are sending up two sets of tools each time they go to the ISS because half of it is built metric and half is built US customary.

The worst shit is when you have physics or engineering textbooks that give you mi/h and you had to convert to m/s, or some example as equally shitty like an acre to m^2 or something. This is after all the professors talk about how we use the metric system in the class blah blah blah but then you have to convert across two systems. Where, in every other country, you get one system in base ten and thats it.

So don't be hatin' on your science/engineering compatriots in America. We have to deal with additional bullshit as if science/engineering in itself wasn't tough enough. We'd change it if we could.
