A lot of the people I know who got political science majors traveled to developing countries or those with recently dissolved governments to help build a stable government. Even in America there are plenty of positions within your local, state, or federal government where you can put that degree to use.

Serious answer time-

A friend of mine who is a pol sci major just recently got an offer letter from the state department to be an intern at the US embassy in Rome.

From my understanding, it's one path people use in attempting to enter law school. Personally, I think there are more suitable majors for law school, but hey, OPINIONS.

>> No.2641835

I mostly hear of it as a pre-lawschool degree, too. Particularly for those interested in running for office later in life.

Very simple... the question can only be solved if you know what you want to do.

There are too many variables to give a proper awnser. (like: do you want to participate in politics or do you want to research politics; do you want to do a major after pol sci or not; where do you live?; what ideals do you have and what do you see as your specialty? [public transportation, ecology, aggriculture, public safety, health, etc.]

tl;dr --> it depends on your personality, ideals, skills and what you see yourself doing in the future.

Unless you are some kind of genius political science should only be a minor in conjunction with a career building degree, and that's only if you know what you are doing. Maybe through prospective letters and attending conferences you have discovered a demand for tax lawyers who are also involved with political lobbying or something and have looked into it and are now interested in political science for this reason.

Also fuck narcissistic hipsters who think they are tools for choosing an education for a career rather than what they enjoy, just by being in a university in a 1st world country you are already within the top 1% most privileged and richest people in the world, get real.

>> No.2641868

It's only for peeps looking to get into office, CIA likes these degrees only if you're at the top of your class along with a foreign language, law, and journalism.

But that's only if you are good at it or actually do something with that knowledge.

I talked to a PolSci major who claimed he got a job offer from the FBI. He ended up with some brokerage firm. Doing what, I don't know.

Enter the job market as a thoughtful person who can speak and write well. Learn on the job. University is not vocational training.

Yeah, in the states you need a college degree to enter law school. I think the first year of law school is unlearning all the ethics and cooperative impulses acquired during college.

Nothing scientific about Political Science.

Best you could hope for is a journalist gig, which doesn't pay much even if you've gathered an audience (though you could write a book and make $ that way).

Major in something real. Physics, chemistry, engineering, biology.
