What should we colonize first: Moon, Mars, or asteroids?
Space colonization thread.

>> No.2620307

well not the moon obviously.

the dark side of the moon never sees sunlight, so its freezing cold and you cant grow crops.
the other side is always in the sun, so it is too hot and bright and humans cant survive their

Asteroids. Mine out the volatiles, go to the next one, repeat. Build inhabitable tubes in their cores and spin them. Cheap space habitat.

Move on to the moon, mars, etc. once we have an actual grasp on how to do shit in space.

You are genuinely an idiot because you'd rather troll a thread that would otherwise have had good intellectual potential than participate in it sincerely.

The moon, obviously, since it's so much closer. Then once we've refined our methods a little we can start building settlements on Mars.

Water is a problem there. It's easy to get oxygen from the lunar soil by simply melting it - such devices have already been build, but we would have to import the water to the Moon. Or we could find hydrogen there and make it react with the oxygen that we got from the soil melting.

I started a space colonization website (which can be found at www.space-colonization.com) and group, if you want to join, email me at cinitiator@live.com.
You would be free to voluntarily contribute and communicate with other members, it isn't an obligation at all.

>> No.2620441

Venus first. It's closest.

Of course, we shouldn't bother with any kind of colonization until we have a reasonable way of getting into space.

>> No.2620445

Theres a distinct possibility that a singularity type event will make life support considerations irrelevant. That said, there might be minimally modified humans that would want to leave Earth too, but its not clear how useful they would be.

I think we should make a small colony on a planet with higher gravitational pull than earth. Then we'll start up a big breeding project there and allow the kids to physically mature in this colony. When we bring them back to the Earth, their bodies will have adjusted to the higher gravitation, and they'll basically be elite super soldiers.

>> No.2620474

>>2620465
Or we could just modify them on Earth, which would be a much less-expensive and less-complex operation.

samefag here,
Some of you even liked the Facebook page, but no one bothered to email me and join the project. The participation is completely voluntary. We're also planning to email the policymakers all over the world and inform them of the benefits of space colonization.

The main problem I see here is that the planet with the strongest surface gravity, along with an actual surface to live on, is the Earth.

The stronger gravity would also have the side-effect of making all your soldiers midgets.

So all we need is to make them prospectors on their home planet and encourage them to grow beards, and we'll have created space dwarves.

>>2620388
There is water on the moon. It has to be mined and melted, and that is a power-intensive process, but it should be possible to maintain water supplies independently. Ultimately, though, a small scale colony cannot be truly independent, since modern technology requires materials that will not be available locally no matter what the location.
