I'm planning to start a Minecraft server for us /sci/entists to play on. I think building houses and exploring caves while having a meaningful discussion in the same time would be awesome. I also plan to make my server pirate-friendly - as in, so that clients with a pirated version of Minecraft could join.
I think it could help provide this board with useful content, as idea sharing on the server would encourage further discussions on /sci/.

Make suggestions and discuss before the server goes live.

Hello guys.

I have to confess I'm very ignorant of this, mock me all you want, but I was thinking about joining the bandwagon even if it's late.

Rewind up a bit for this grandpa: The alpha is the version that's available online, for free, no? And the beta is the super awesome one with the day-night cycle, the exploding green thing, etc etc, which is available at a price.

With this:

I presume there are pirates versions of the Beta with which you can join other people's private servers, but not the "official" ones, or can you join them all? Also, anyone got a link?

Beta is the one that is obtainable by purchasing on the web.
