Is Mad Scientist around? I want to work out the most efficient greenhouse/hydroponic system for growing food in a small area and decide whether it's economical to set one up at my place.

I can't seem to find any. But that's most likely because I dig down near the bedrock where you have a better chance of finding iron and diamond. I don't even really play it anymore, I got bored.
The new anarchic style of server is interesting, but not interesting enough. (once you get ganked by ten guys with diamond armor and swords fifteen times, it's not so much fun)

You just need to explore for a little while and find some big cliffs/cave systems. You'll see coal all over.

Also, never burn coal for fuel unless you're sitting on a shit-ton of it. Boards are just fine, and are totally renewable.

It's way more efficient to burn coal than wood. Hell, it's so more efficient that it's actually more efficient to burn wood into charcoal with planks and then use that.
