Sup /sci/

Why is a mathematics degree a bachelor of arts degree?

Why isnt it a bachelor of science?

Or is it just my country (aus)

Just a guess: because math isn't science?

>> No.2502607

I'm pretty sure that here in the U.S you can get either a B.A. or a B.S. in math. Sometimes even at the same institution. The requirements can be different, though.

Since when is mathematics a science?

>> No.2502655

mathematics is science at my college

>> No.2502669

At my university, math and all of the pure science degrees are offered as BA or BS.

The BS degrees are substantial. The BA degrees are shit.

between arts and science, its closer to science?

Is the method applied to math...research? What is math research, aside from proving things?

>> No.2502783

B.A here takes less credits than B.S. 64 vs 80

>> No.2502839

yupp. you can get either a B.A. or a B.S.

not sure why you would go for a B.A. though sounds like crap to me.

well of course theres research in mathematics!

what was pythagoras doing hundreds of years ago?

At mine every course gives you a BA and then an honorary MA after 3 years. All the real Master's degrees make sense though (MA, MSci, MMath etc.).

It's proving things. Those things have a habit of becoming useful long after the Mathematician has died though, and often sooner.
