Who's currently the best scientist in the world?

God, he invented everything

OP here, forgot to say, pic related.

ITT: butthurt wannebe scientists raging against michio kaku and/or carl sagan

>> No.2462649

>>2462629
fuck you, I'm a wannabe mathematician. And I'm not raging against him, I don't even know who he is.

But from all I've heard his image in the scientific community (no, I'm not talking about /sci/..) seems to not be (seems not be to?) the best.

And Sagan, who is he? Is he even a scientist? I heard he smoked weed and made a documentary. But before /sci/ I never heard of the guy.

>> No.2462650

I'm not saying michio kaku is a bad scientist, he's contributed quite a lot to physics, and hes a great mathametician, he's just turned into a pop-sci whore

>seems to not be (seems not be to?) the best.

Seems not to be; "seems to not be" sounds awkward to a native speaker.

Polite sage, since I'm not adding anything relevant.

Let's compare the achievements of anonymous scientists on here with those of Michio Kaku.

Commence.

I found a marvelous simple proof of the generalized Riemann hypothesis.
But this post is too small to contain it.

If your answer is not on this list, you should leave /sci/ and never come back.

Actually he's fairly well-respected among scientists. He's contributed to string theory, popularized it along with Brain Greene. I don't actually agree with string theory but I think it's a step in the right direction for theoretical physics, and you don't produce string theory without being at least moderately talented.

HOWEVER, best scientist in the world? That's such an open question... *my favourite* would be Lawrence Krauss, for a plethora of reasons that are most likely unique to me! There really is no... "best" scientist. The safest answer would be Stephen Hawking.

Not sure if troll but I'll bite. Usually those are awarded for very specific accomplishments in very specific fields. Some like Geim are talented in multiple areas but most of them focus only on one thing. Hardly qualification for "best in the world" not that I think it can be qualified anyway.

>> No.2462726

>>2462710

Yes. Krauss is awesome.

Those not saying Perelman should gtfo and wiki him as soon as possible.
I loved the fact that he refused a grand maths prize because the Committee was not skilled enough to grade his work, even positively.

Here's the quote
"He had previously turned down a prestigious prize from the European Mathematical Society,[26] allegedly saying that he felt the prize committee was unqualified to assess his work, even positively.[22]"
And well, he did solve the Poincarré Conjecture and stopped giving a fuck about maths because mathematicians were lacking too much integrity for his taste.
