So the fact that we survived the Cold War is the turning point for humanity?

Oh fuck yes. That actually makes sense.

who says the cold war is over? as long as theire's profit in selling both sides guns and information, there will be war and tension across this planet.

the only way to stop the war and tension is to get the people aligned to make a decision not to do it anymore.

there's a lot more of us than there are of them.

I mean the apparently stability of MAD, combined with lessening major arsenals over time.

If we were going to blow up the whole world, we would have done it before now, when the rhetoric and threats were at a peak.

I can confirm that it is awesome, and also, the only things I ever bought were:

The Rediscovery of Man
Norstrilia
Flying to Valhalla

And then the Kindle. But those were very very special cases. Other than that, waiting for the scanner dudes.

Then there's the cost of international shipping and all such nonsense I have to put up with.

mmm i could agree that competition between systems seems to be the best way to diversify through technological progress. One of the population ecology central theories is that species avoid competition every time, they prefer to specialize towards other resources, instead of actually fighting for the ecological niche in question. This is what i think is what we see as a the space race, nuclear bombs etc. its completely an inherent aspect of systems. Now, if only we could harness this characteristics without harming people, or getting into costly and pointless wars.
