Hey /sci/ I need help with a math problem.
If a cucumbers weight is 300grams 99% of its weight is water. Then i leave it on the table for three weeks and then the mass changes so that 98% of the weight is water (2%) is "cucumber materia". Whats the cucumbers current weight?
Would be thankful for replies and a good explanation!

Yeah I got it to 150grams aswell. My mate said that it's wrong..

How about this one guys.

An airplane leaves L.A. for Denver at a speed of 430 mph. 30 mins later, a plane going from Denver to L.A. departs from Denver, which is 850 miles from L.A., at a speed of 470 mph.

When they meet, how far are they from Denver?

>> No.2411631

Yes 150g is correct
Let 3g (cucumber dry weight) = 2%
->150g

They don't meet. The planes are flying at different altitude to avoid collisions.

ok. I think I finally get it. I solved for t.

so <span class="math">470(t)=331.61

So, the distance the second plane traveled is where they meet.

It finally dawns on me. Thanks for the help![/spoiler]

Didn't you learn that in school.

If you leave your Cucumber out for 3 weeks, depending
on the room temperature and air density, It is going to
loose a whole lot of water to evaporation.

In other words, having a cucumber water to material
ratio fall so little gives no sense unless it was kept
cool or in some other way protected from evaporation.

That aside there is not enough information to create
a conclusive answer, as the extra "cucumber materia"
may be due to growth, or due to dehydration. In the
case of dehydration it would have lost mass, but in
the case of growth It may have remained the same,
and in some rare cases gained weight by sucking up
moisture from exposure.

If this really is just a math problem, I really hope your
a 9th grader that is lazy, if not, then you do not
deserve the title of marine biologist, as it would imply
that you have a larger command of the natural
sciences then you have.

What you just said is exactly what I were saying to my mate. Mate = Teacher, but it's not a homework! It was just a problem that we tried to solve. He's providing me the right answer tomorrow and he said that the last comment and the 150grams answers are both wrong. Just providing enough evidence to convince him that I were right. :>
Thanks, all of you. :p
