reasons:

1)solar cells aren't 100% efficient, the most efficient solar cell in existence today only converts 80% of the energy of the light that hits it.

2) the current will make the wire heat up, losing energy in the process.

3) some of the light will heat the air between them heating up the air and losing energy.
