It's not necessarily an honor, only recognition of massive influence, something that Mark Zuckerberg undoubtedly had. Yes, Facebook has existed for some time now, but user base rose exponentially this past year.

I don't know the exact details but there is some bank (federal reserves bank?) is trying to buy Facebook shares and there are some people who 'need' for Facebook to appear super successful. I am not saying that it isn't but the fact that everyone goes gaga for Facebook is beyond me. Myspace, even though it has its own deficits, at least let you organize your layout somewhat and make it more personal.

Also, remember the movie is just now getting recognized at the golden globes etc (Oscars eventually) and the entertainment media gets all over this. And, yes, it's in Time Magazine but it isn't exactly the Wall Street Journal It's just a flashy wannabe "news" magazine; the articles in there are written for 3rd graders to read pretty much.

I don't get that facebook thing. It says it helps me stay connected with friends, but what it really does is, that if I meet a friend I haven't seen in a long time we don't have anything to talk about because we posted it all in 2 sentence long statuses on facebook.
Other people prefer spending their friday evenings on facebook rather than actually going out... I don't get it.
I had that shit for a few months, deleted it. If I'm gonna waste my time on internet, 4chan is better.

I use it for
1. Keeping up to date with what my friends are doing because I don't see 80% of them since highschool. E.g. finding out who's with who, who has a job etc.

and 2. Looking at peoples pictures for stalking purposes

They sell advertising. Which is a very valuable commodity these days, even more if you know more about bazillions of users than NSA, CIA, FBI and KGB combined.

Honestly, there really are only two types of people in this world:

1.) Those who enjoy socializing to the fullest, creating Facebook, keeping up with friends and posting pictures of themselves for the thousands of low-minded people to view for their own entertainment and to make oh so "witty" comments.

2.) Those who see the world in a different light, focus on events and ideas, want to change the world by implementing such an idea like curing AIDS, creating new technology that helps in many ways to allow us to maybe communicate or learn, etc. etc.

Ironically enough, Mark Zuckerberg is probably in category two, but basically everyone on Facebook is in the first.

Funny, because the only reason "I" go to Facebook, was for quite some time, it was the only place I knew I wouldn't be banned. There's no point in discussing ideas if you have nowhere to tell them. No mouth to scream with you could say.
