I'm in the US, I did high school here, but middle school was abroad.

I wanted to do physics but im not going to lie, i was told jobs are rare, and I'm not from a financial setting to take a risk.

I never took computer science at any point in my life except in college, and I got better at it as soon as I was done with Java. I have a knack for digital logic/assembly and i dont mind signal processing. but my interests always were in circuit design, and more importantly semiconductor physics, photonics and maybe some QM.

now I'm debating going for higher studies or going for an MBA, what thinks /sci/

i know /sci/ doesn't like engineers, but halp!

Your primary concern in life is money.
You will be a wage slave for the rest of your life.
You will never be truly happy.

I pitty you.

Do the MBA. Leave /sci/ and never come back

not OP, but have numerous colleagues in academia that obsess over their salaries...

You know, people who've been published countless times, respected experts in their fields, that live beyond their means because they lack the one thing they think everyone else has...

I say get the cash and then do the science. Be happy with both instead of one or none.

easy to talk shit. i came to high school in my sophomore year. i didnt really know what the SATs were for, or what a GPA was.

needless to say, i have no money of any sorts to support myself a few months after graduation.

even after this i picked E.E because it [electricity] was actually my most favorite part about physics. I could have picked other professions like a medical doctor if I only cared about money, like other people who look like me do

Nope, loads of money gives you time for education, and a free pass to whatever university happens to catch your eye.

Or an honorary degree, if that's what you prefer.

Never said you could.

You can buy access to knowledge though, as you all know quite well I suppose. You can also buy time to acquire knowledge.

Also experience can come first, in fact employers tend to prefer it that way, as I'm again sure you guys know.

You can't buy intelligence, but for those ones we offer the honorarium...

and you can buy time, what do you suppose money is?

You can't buy qualifications, on that I agree. But if you have money, don't you already have the one qualification that our little meritocracy values?

>You can't buy qualifications bro.

That's not the case actually. In some countries private institutions pay universities in other countries for their coursework/exams etc. and have pretty inept teachers teach on campus. The universities are pretty money hungry these days, so they basically pass everyone in order to keep up revenue.

My professor showed me some of the final exams from a private institution in Sinagpore. I think the average mark was about 8-10%. Every single student got offered a supplementary exams (if you pass the exam you get a pass for the unit). Pretty much every private institution in Singapore is like this.

college in america's just to show that you can stick with something for 4 years and follow directions. it's jumping through a hoop but it's better than working at walmart until you die.

Just so you know OP, you're not alone in this kind of shit. When you happen to move into the US school system from a different country and you don't have proper guidance of resources, shit gets extremely difficult very fast.
