Damn straight he was.

He really was actually.

I agree. I hate all those math theorems and shit that are named after some eurofag and it makes it sound all hard but then its actually easy as shit.

>> No.2350310

I always find it funny how Poisson discovered so much shit that plenty of stuff named after other great mathematician he actually did first.

Just because you accomplished so much doesn't mean you have to flaunt it to everyone like an insecure faggot in dire need of validation from others. If someone cares so much about your work, they would take to time to find out who you are.

Pretty much this. It's not when somebody names their work, discovery, research, or accomplishment after them that bothers, it's when someone else already did so before (but remained obscure for some reason) but still bothered putting their name on it that's irritating.

I especially hate when they name math theorems after themselves. When a thereom is named after some random eurofag, the name is completely useless because it gives you no information on what the therem is about, and therefore just slows down the rate of progress.

>> No.2350412

First , it would be ridiculous to invent names for everything. Is far more pratical use the scientist name.Second , who gives scientists names to things are other people, not the guy who researched.Third...I dont even thing it could be said that its a "name"..if "john" had a theorem, and I'd like to refer to it, Id say "johns theorem says that blah blah"..I didnt name it.

You're right. Pasteur should've called it "Heat-it-up-kill-em-ization"

Using your own name is a simple way to refer to discovery or law or etc.

I mean shit, what the hell would you call a majority of discovery and laws?

>> No.2350501

Nobody names their discoveries after themselves.

If you see a paper where the author has named some discovery after himself, you can throw it in the wastebin, because 99.999% of the time, it's because he's an idiot.

This. Did you think that Newton was like "this method is so cool, I'll name it after myself;?

No, he wrote a paper called (in english) Method of Fluxions. Later, people began calling it Newton's Method.

>> No.2351751

Using my own field of neuroscience as an example (where more often than not shit is named after the person who discovered it), which do you think is easier to write 50 times in a paper:

>The cortical area typically located at coordinates XX:YY in broadmann's area ZZ (Smith et al. 2011) appears to be...
or
>Smith's Area (Smith et al. 2011) appears to be...
