I have a very silly question.

What shape is the Universe?
I mean is it finite? Is it spherical? What do we know about the shape of the Universe?

>> No.2349316

In the 3d perspective it is a sphere. It has an end which is constantly expanding.

>> No.2349320

no one knows for sure.
so far, it seems to be infinite and thus of undefined shape. some speculate, however, that it is tauroid (donut-shaped).

So, kind of like a balloon?

>> No.2349340

From our perspective the observable universe is spherical, but the actual shape could very well be none, as the universe is infinitely large.

>> No.2349346

Given that matter was distributed in a non uniform pattern it's reasonable to assume that the universe is also non uniform in shape

>> No.2349348

There is a really big question right now in Differential Geometry applied to Cosmology about the shape of the universe. The question was "Is it:
1. flat
2. closed (meaning if you go straight along enough you'll end up where you were - like a sphere)
3. open (you could go in any one direction forever - see a saddle)
Estimates showed somewhat recently that the universe is nearly flat. See the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric.

Yeah, I speculate that it is chaped like a penis.

>chaped like a penis
>chapped

I fucking hate it when that happens

Volume of universe is finite, but universe is boundless. There is no "edge" or "wall". Doesn't make sense? Think in higher dimensions?

op nasa has mapped all the galaxys they can see. just google it

If you take into consideration the dimension of time, perhaps so. But I find it to be less a literal shape of the universe, and more as a model for all the probabilities that may occur in the universe relative to their positions in time.

"...and that is why I believe the universe to be banana shaped..."
