Anybody on /sci/ ever done an extraction?

>> No.2339617

No, but I planted the idea for this thread in your head last night.

Of what? I did tons in organic chemistry lab. Are you making drugs, OP?

Sorry brah wasn't on /sci/ last night and have been planning to do this for months now.. but it's all the same really.

Of DMT obviously.

>Are you making drugs, OP?

Nothing my body isn't already producing endogenously.

Yeah I did a lab in ochem called "extraction of spinach". We blended spinach with water, salt, and hexane/acetone then centrifuged it. Then we took the organic layer and added sodium sulfate to absorb the water in it. Then we performed column chromatography revealing chlorophyll, carotene, xanthophyll, and other shit no one cares about.

Fascinating, but not relevent to my interests, unless of course the result was a very potent psychotropic.

Still, I appreciate that you took time out of your life to share.

loled. 50 internets to you, sir.

I once worked in a lab that studied a species of newt that shall remain nameless. Turns out the newt produces its toxin using symbiotic bacteria between the skin and body wall. I wonder if the Colorado River Toad uses a similar mechanism. If the bacterium (if that is, indeed, the mechanism) can be isolated and cultured... you could have the means for mass production of 5-MeO-DMT on a scale that hasn't been seen before.

You haven't heard of smoking spinach? Oh shit bro, you're gonna flip... It's better than banana peels...

Interesting - the nature of N,N-DMT and 5-MeO-DMT experiences are very different as far as I know though - psilocybin (4-PO-DMT) is also very similar as far as the structure of the molecule is concerned.

Were you specifically studying the production of 5-MeO-DMT in the newt or was it just a secondary discovery?

>> No.2339763

The newts produced a TOXIN, not a psychedelic. A few mg's of their toxin and anything except a few isolated populations of garter snakes would be DEAD. However, the mechanism for their toxin production was an accidental discovery on my part. We tried to pit tag them and one got her body wall broken and her intestine hung out of her side. We did surgery to shove it back in and used surgical glue to shut it... to nurse her back to health we gave her antibiotics and kept her in sterile water under a HEPA microbial filter hood to recover. Her toxin production abruptly STOPPED. It was the broad-spectrum antibiotics! This happens in quite a few vertebrates. Complex chemical products in vertebrates, especially in their skin (like with the toads), are often the product of symbiotic bacteria. Soo.... you need to get your hands on a ton of the toads and keep them for study. Give one of them antibiotics and keep another as a control. Sample their skin secretions and run it through a GC or NMR or whatever to test for 5-MeO-DMT. If the antibiotic toad has less and the control toad has more (by a significant margin), then you have PURE WIN!

Isn't science fantastic?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. OP is totally trying to find toads and lab equipment.

Seriously though, OP, call me a genius for the above. Please, just do it. My anonymous post on 4chan could have just set you on the path to being a millionaire.

what do you want to isolate and from what?

I'm assuming thought that the psychedelic can be isolated form the toxin though much like it can be from the secretions of the Bufo toad though, correct?

I should mention that I am not a /sci/entist at all and don't study anything science related - not because I don't find it interesting, but I just don't have the mind for it.. my strengths have always been related to writing and literature.. math and science classes always gave me a hard time.

>>2339804

Haha, not quite - like I said, as far as I'm aware 5-MeO-DMT and N,N-DMT have very different and distinct effects - plus it's a lot easier to get my hands on some MHRB than a hundred newts that I don't even know the name of, lol.

You should join me, /sci/, it will be fun, I promise!

Nobody's outright going to GIVE this information to you. I'm not insulting you OP, but you need to do some research and cultivate REAL scientific curiosity. What is the difference between XTC pills produced by retards in some Indonesian lab that're filled with meth and pure product from a hobbyist chemist? Scientific training and curiosity. (not to mention purity and safety) Same goes for redneck methheads who blow themselves up, and schwag weed from Mexico vs California hydro. Learn about the organic chemistry behind extractions (like dissolves like) and some of the underlying scientific principles.

PS. This is the anon that suggested the bacterial source for extractable product.
