I have a theory that religions are designed for people who fail at life, it makes them feel wanted and important for what they are but not for what they actually have achieved. Discuss

More like they were designed to calm people the fuck down about the inevitable phenomenon we call "death". Because dying is a naturally scary thing.

Religion is a incredibly convoluted way to say you're afraid to die. Now gtfo /sci/.

No fuck you. Your theories are uninteresting and redundant.

I don't care if my opinions are of little importance to you, since your opinions clearly mean nothing to me.

Roflmao if you think i'am religious, I just came here for new ideas and clearly "Inurdaes !V1sPhobos" delivered some but he was just being an elitist asshole like everyone else when they are on defence ;D

/sci/ is literally 50% religion-related threads. We really, really, really don't want anymore.

>> No.2333532

Yeah they should really make a religion board, which i think would fail indeed but they should try.

There are lots of reasons for religion. Mythology explains "why we are here, why the seasons change, why we have day and night, why we have weather, why life sucks". Usually the explanation for "why life sucks" is "someone fucked things up for us all a long time ago" (Adam and Eve, Pandora, etc.). And yes, religion does help us deal with death, our grief over the deaths of others, and our fear of our own mortality. It is a terrible thing to contemplate that our own consciousness will eventually end. When tragedy strikes-injury, illness, natural disaster, economic collapse-people feel that prayer can help them. Religion gives people friends, albeit imaginary ones, a sense of importance, and gives people without the mental capacity to figure out that "Hey, it's not in my own rational self-interest to kill/rape people or steal their shit, if only because it'll get me killed or put in jail", the fear of judgment and damnation/reincarnation as something crappy keeps them from acting like animals (except for niggers, who are often religious all the same).

Is it time we did away with most organized religion? Of course it is. We know that the Pope isn't the infallible voice of God, we know that Mohamed was a pedophile and bandit, and even the clergy of the most humane and sensible religions have committed abuses, because that's what power does, especially "divine power". Does that mean all belief is folly and that we can say with certainty that there are no gods, no souls, and no spirits? Of course not! But we do need to, here at the beginning of this century, candidly evaluate the role of religion in society, especially in politics, and the main religions of the world need to become a lot less dogmatic and more democratic.

it was added during the OH MY GOD COMMUNISTS stage of america to differentiate us from communists.

I think all the OH MY GOD COMMUNISTS policies are outdated now that the communist threat has ended

It's bullshit, that's what. I prefer our original motto "e pluribus unum". It works on so many levels: out of many sovereign states a single federal republic, out of many peoples and nationalities a single people, etc.

>>2333585

Yes, that's what you'd like us all to think, comrade.
