So /sci/, I have been contemplating why humans find symmetry so beautiful. What is the evolutionary and intrinsic purpose for why we all can relate to the beauty of symmetry. The answer I have come down to is predictability. We like to be certain of what we are going to get. We do not like ambiguity and uncertainty, and symmetry is away of providing that safety and assurance. We know that healthy genes, for instance, are much more likely with people with symmetrical faces, which lead to better chances for survival. What are your thoughts /sci/?

It has to do with Golden ratio = 1.61803399 or some shit like that. Thats why symmetry is hot. Some English guy narrated a documentary about it. Case closed.

I think the golden ratio probably has more to do with identifying the symmetries present in nature, not the reason why it is appealing to the senses. Symmetry can also be beautiful in sound as well.

I went to a website showing pics of girls with perfect symmetry and I found them all ugly.
