Instincts

how do they work? If it is by genetic imprinting then why can't we theoretically imprint one's memory on a clone?

How would you "imprint" a memory. Your memories are complex and fine synapses and neuron bodies of incredible complexity. Maybe some day in the far future, you could accurately copy these through some invasive methods and achieve some form of "upload", but it's too early to talk of this.

How would you do that to a clone? You do know that cells within the body are still distributed stochastically and only guided by the DNA - this is the case for your nervous system, which itself can take major different turns in development, even prenatally (you could for example develop the brain of a different gender if you're exposed to the wrong hormones in the womb). The individual neurons and individual connectivity (not overall) will be different from individual to individual, even those of same DNA.

instincts would be best defined as very tightly defined actions to certain stimuli, ones which require very little in the way of genetic "programming" to get done.
Memories on the other hand are more broad, and contain a metric shitload of information, such as emotions at the time, what you saw, what you felt, etc etc.

Think of it this way: i have a video taking up 100mb of space showing numbers from 1 to 1000, and a 15kb program that generates those numbers. It would make more sense to use the program due to far less in the way of storage requirements, and would take less processing power to use it.

Memory is not genetic. It seems possible to have very complex instincts (the web patterns of spiders, etc), but this isn't at work in humans.

Thank goodness. Cultural evolution is MUCH faster than biological, even if you make it partially Lamarckian through genetic memory.

Op the next time you want to start a debate about something don't end all your sentences in question marks. It makes it look like you are asking questions, so some people will just give you hints instead of explaining concisely why you're being retarded.
