notation is subjective.

math is very subjective. what are you talking about?

I want to pop my head through her lips.

why do people keep on mentioning 300k starting? if you have the intelligence to get a math phd, you can probably do well in more ambitious aspects of finance anyways and do better than be a glorified programmer.

being a quant is a back up for failed professors

so what is THIS thread about, really?

>> No.2314000

seriously? 300K to start? how could someone intelligent enough to get through a math degree be so sloppy with numbers? or are you talking pesos? 50K tops, median (I'll assume you know what that means) mid career for B.Sc. Math is $92 400 as of 2007. Even with a PhD and a MBA out of Harvard Business you're not starting at 300K, maybe 100K in this economy. The top 95th percentile of grads will me lucky to make 300K a year at any point in their career. Those are the statistics, I suggest you drop out of math because you're not very good at the basics.

People still argue over whether to use the axiom of choice. It's not free from subjectivity.

Fuck you, I have a Master's degree in Math and I work at a fucking deli. It's fucking bullshit. I even passed 2 actuarial exams and I still can't get a job worth a shit!

thats not subjectivity.
You can argue all you wan't if its wise to use it (non-constructive proves ;_;)
What one likes is subjective, yes.
But lets say a (good) mathematican understands the implications and can still use this or that axiome set and calculate ect., if he likes the axioms of not.

350+? I notice that below that there's another job that says 150K+... Why is there no "K" after the 350?

>> No.2314241

>>2314202

lol, who cares about that, newjobfag doesn't know what "senior" means. here's a hint, first comes entry level, then comes junior, then comes...if you're lucky senior. Without seeing the rest of the ad can pretty much tell you you need an MBA and +15 years experience.
Sorry to break your heart little buddy

don't know if you're kidding or not, but I also knew a guy with a Master in Physics that worked at a deli for a few years after U. Don't know where he ended up, but last time I saw him his biggest prospect was tutoring a few HS students after school for $25/hr cash. I've got a B.Sc. Physics and never worked a day in anything remotely related. I saw another buddy who was defending and then moving back to Toronto, to his GF parents basement . He had a teaching cert. and although I haven't talked to him since I'll bet the house he's working as a HS science teacher in York right now. Another buddy with a Masters in Physics I ran into a few months ago was lucky enough to be working RandD at Ford, not totally unrelated but probably working with Mechanical and E.E's with undergrads. Best case, a guy 1 year ahead of me with a PhD is working for NASA Jet Prop in Cali. prolly lucky to be making 100K, but not sure.

people who study math don't do it for the money
