Yo /sci/, quick question.

The square root of 69 is 8 something, right? I've been trying to figure it out

>> No.2303923

About 8.3 I think

impressive. now could you shop a trollface to look like it has down syndrome, like the crappy version i did in mspaint? I belive that would be an appropriate response to OP's faggotry.

You didn't recognise Newton.

Leave /sci/ and never return.

to get a quick answer to first order i would say:

69 = (8 + x)^2
= 64 + 2*8*x + O(x^2)
=> x ~= 5/16

so, sqrt(69) ~= 8.3125

use a calculator and you will find

69^0.5 = 8.3066238629180748525842627449075

>> No.2304187

>>2304177
thats not how you newton!

>> No.2304201

this thread proves how stupid /sci/ is

>> No.2304202

>>2304039
now as a second order correction:

69 = (8.3125 + y)^2
= (133/16)^2 + 2*(133/16)*y + O(y^2)
=> y ~= (69-(133/16)^2)*8/133
~= -0.00587406015

so, sqrt(69) ~= 8.3125 - 0.00587406015
= 8.30662594

Using Newton's method, we can find this shit like what
x^2 - 69 = 0
so x is the square root of 69. We know it's around 8, so let's use his formula
xsubset1 = x - f(x)/(f'x)
f'x = 2x
xsubset1 = 8 - (8^2 - 69)/(2 * 8)
xsubset1 = 8 - -5/16
or 8 and 5/16

Now do
xsubset2 = 8 + 5/16 - f(8+5/16)/f'(8+5/16)
I don't feel like doing the rest, so you can do it. Continue until you feel like you've found a pretty consistent number. I'd go until the decimals vary by less than a thousandth.

these give the same exact answer as:
>>2304328
except without invoking the machinery of calculus, rather the simple elegance of perturbation theory.
