How do you relate your inner self to the world around you ? ?

There are only 4 options one can chose for:

Option 1: Materialism; (or related, more complex theories which take in account the quantum world). believe that the only thing that exists is matter, Your mind is just an algorithm as part of your brain.

Option 2: Solipsism; The idea that only one's own mind is sure to exist.

Option 3: Belief in a God; as counterpart to the divine mind(inner self). Resulting in a balanced worldview.

Option 4: an agnostic view point.

Retard option: Nihilism; No reason to assume you or the world around you exists

Note that option 1 is as reasonable as option 2.
And option 2 is as reasonable as option 3.

Why consider a divine entity within the inner self a possibility(Solipsism), while a divine entity within the world around you isn`t(theism)?

Solipsism implies there is, by defenition NO divine entity or "god" in the external world, but parhaps beyond one's own mind, that`s still considered a possibility.

Believing there is NO divine entity in the external world requires just as much assumptions as believing there IS a divine entity.

There's no such thing as reasonable belief without evidence. "Reason"=logic, reasonable=logical. The default logical position is skepticism of everything there isn't evidence of, because otherwise we must posit "reasonable" beliefs if they can explain anything that we don't currently understand.

Believing in God because it feels right isn't any different from believing in dew fairies because the concept of condensation doesn't sit right with you.

>Believing there is NO divine entity in the external world requires just as much assumptions as believing there IS a divine entity.
No one is disputing that faggot. But not-believing in a devine entitiy is <span class="math">{\bf not}[/spoiler] the same as believing there is no divine entity. Depending on the definition both can be considered as atheism, so someone calling himself an atheist doesn't mean he dis-believes there is a god. Agnosticism is something more than just not-believing there is a god because agnostics claim (as the name would suggest) it is inherently impossible tho have knowledge about the existence of a divine entity. Gnosis means knowledge. agnosis means no-knowledge.

Right. And I don't know how many times I'll have to post the following before people get the idea that agnosticism isn't in itself a position on a belief:

When it comes to whether to posit an idea or not, there are two standpoints which each nuanced belief of an individual can fit under: For and not-for. In the case of a god, there is theism and atheism. Everyone is one or the other. Someone who has never considered the question, or considers himself insufficiently informed on the issue to go one way or the other is classified as not-for:atheism.

Why? Because atheism just states that you don't believe in a god. Believe is a verb, meaning that if aren't believing, you don't believe. Seems like a "duh" thing to say, but when you set agnosticism as a belief apart from atheism, you are essentially saying that there is a distinction between not believing and not believing, which is ridiculous.

Agnosticism simply states lack of self perceived authority on the subject, or lack of the will to preach. It exists under both categories, but when someone says "I'm agnostic" they actually mean to say "I'm an agnostic atheist".

>> No.2281550

>>2281527
I agree except for the following statement
>agnosticism isn't in itself a position on a belief
In fact it is, just not one conflicting with atheism. The notion that knowledge about a divine entity is impossible is in itself a position, is it not?

Don't start off a thread by reinventing the field you wish to discuss according to your whims. Just that.

I consider personal pathos to be of prime importance. Life must be nothing if not interesting. Also stoicism. Living in accordance with the laws of the world. General asceticism and self denial.

Happiness is relative. If you are used to simple pleasures, it is easy to be happy.

Back up. Pathos. Look at those you adore and idolize and compare yourself to. Why should you not strive to be their like and peer? However, you are not Indiana Jones, nor are you living in his world. The subject process in question will be profoundly subjective and relative in all things.

In the end, it comes down to your choice. Life is about making passionate choices.
