Whats the best way to annoy Scientists?

ITT: we discuss only the sweetest trolling.

If Biology is just applied Chemistry,
And Chemistry is just applied Physics,
And physics is just applied Mathematics,
And Mathematics is just applied Philosophy,
And Philosophy is just applied Psychology,
Then what is Psychology applied?
Biology. Its a circle.

wooafff, i raged 8/10

>> No.2261722

Psychology is applied bullshit, so is philosophy.

Philosophy is no longer related to mathematics anymore, no matter how many times the philosophy majors say it is.

>> No.2261723

How is this trollscience? Of course they're all related. We don't study subjects in isolation. The boundary between similar subjects, such as chemistry and biology, are somewhat arbitary. And it's not like both those subjects draw on many other disciplines, too. It's why we have univerities and colleges, not just "school of physics" and "school of math."

I think the best way to Piss off a scientist is an Religious extremist. I had a 2 hour convo with some religious nut about how god is amazing...She never stayed on topic, had lots of filler, and never answerd my questions... D:<

As for the rest of you enjoy being trolled.

I reject that Mathematics is applied Philosophy.

Philosophers seem to enjoy accusing all fields of thought of being subsets of Philosophy.

I say fuck that.

ahahahahaha no. Regardless of what the sophists say Philosophy is applied Mathematics which can't be applied to anything else...

>If Biology is just applied Chemistry,
Well, that's just plain inaccurate - biology studies chemical systems with a much different type of abstraction. Where does evolution fit into "chemistry"? It's about process, which is the domain of, say, CS and Math, as much as chemistry. Where does, say, the development of sensory organs fit into "chemistry"? A lot of that is optics, acoustics, etc. which we tend to identify with physics.
>And Chemistry is just applied Physics,
This is a bit more plausible, but again, it's a different lens. You'd have to apply a lot of physics, in quite an inefficient way, to determine the viscosity of sucrose, say, right? I don't know enough about either field to really say.
>And physics is just applied Mathematics,
Okay, this is vaguely plausible, but I mean, where do you get reasoning about absolute space in mathematics? Where do you get such a cavalier attitude towards infinity? A lot of the claims of physics are made in a different mode, if in a different language, as mathematics.

>And Mathematics is just applied Philosophy,
Nope. Mathematicians and philosophers overlap, because they both take place on a high level of supposedly precise abstraction. The relation isn't "applied," because in many cases, philosophy is just applied mathematics - Tolstoy famously used calculus as a jumping-off point for his theory of history, philosophers have made a lot of speculation about the meaning of the statistical and computational revolutions of this century, and so on. What's more, math and philosophy both veer into completely unrecognizable tongues outside of...basically, formal logic and occasional jargon (Foucault using "topology" in a similar aspect to math as an example).
>And Philosophy is just applied Psychology,
Nope. Though Nietzsche might argue that philosophy is a subdiscipline of psychology, philosophical statements express propositions about the world-at-large, which have truth values according to methods of investigation. The content of these statements is not purely reducible to the psychology of their adherents or authors.
>Then what is Psychology applied?
Psychology is already applied, but Psychiatry is the logical answer.
>Biology. Its a circle.
Applied psychology is biology? I don't think so. Behavior can explain a lot of things, but the whole of biology? I think not.
Anyway, this is pretty boring. I hold to the Buddhist doctrine of emptiness, in which (among other things) all conceptions subsume all other concepts. This is both the foremost blasphemy against, and the truest realization of, religion - that the idea of God can be subsumed into ideas not of God, but that the ideas not of God can in turn be subsumed into the idea of God.
