I'm sorry to crush your first-world white nerd escapist fantasies, but no, the future of humanity is to stay on this rock forever until the inevitable extinction. We're not going to find prothean artifacts on Mars. We're not going to enter a glorious age of technological progress following the Singularity or whatever nonsense. We are constrained by economics, scarcity, biology, psychology, and physics. Superficial technological progress is not going to hide for long the state of crisis humanity is in, even though it will blind the priviledged few for some time. Face the fact that tomorrow is going to suck big time - the sooner you've accepted it and moved on from your fantasies, the more prepared you're going to be (not that it will help much).

If we just had to deal with the unimaginable, enormous, virtually unthinkably complex and daunting task of adjusting to the fact that oil production is going to get harder and harder to do and thus grow more and more expensive on lesser returns-a substance that not only acts as the fuel to virtually every car and truck and plane in existence, but that we use through chemical engineering to make plastics that we rely on for making nearly every thing we build-that alone is a thing so difficult to confront that it makes my head hurt-how in the holy FUCK are we going to get by when we have no more oil for Christ's sake?
But that is ONE problem out of a plethora of them that are looming on our species's horizon.
Having to TOTALLY CHANGE HOW WE FUEL OUR ECONOMY AND INDUSTRY in a process that itself will take up an ENORMOUS amount of resources, including our increasingly precious oil to make a conversion-is only one of SEVERAl huge issues we have.
Sweet merciful fuck, we are in deep gentlemen. God damn I hope we can nanomachines our way out of this one...

Yeah, shame about how those advances mostly help out a small number of people to get new retarded gadgets.

The system is huge and impressive and glorious and hopelessly, utterly fucking doomed by its own size and inability to comprehend its own looming starvation in fuel. We're children of a rotting empire, scrabbling in the desert to buy a few more years on top.

Oh wait...I already knew this. Plus, you're also a retard if you don't think that governments aren't already on top of developing and implementing alternative fuels.

I'm glad you pointed all that out OP, but I think you came to the wrong conclusion. The future's actually going to be a lot *better* than the present, precisely because of the fact that we're running out of the fuel required to make and run all the technology we depend upon. Well, it'll be better after the population corrects, that is.

I suggest reading "Industrial Society and Its Future" for a better explanation.

Has humanity ever had its population increase exponentially, supported essentially by a single fuel source, then had that fuel source run out? You're essentially saying that all problems are the same, and that ingenuity will solve everything, which isn't the case. In fact, most of our previous successes have been because of the fact that we can just light a bunch of hydrocarbons on fire whenever we need a ton of energy.

>> No.2247952

>>2247942
No it won't.

>> No.2247971

There's a finite amount of oil, but the amount is very large. Nuclear can replace oil pretty easily, and before the uranium runs out, we have the moon's He3 to mine. By the time the moon's He3 runs out... who the fuck know, but by that time we could be mining resources from all over the solar system.

I'm all for long-term thinking, but not chicken little-ism. Long-term thinking simply says to invest modest amounts in research of alternative technologies. Then they'll be there by the time we need them. If someone wants to use this as an excuse to "rush" to the moon in a meaningful way, I won't object.

It's nice that you're for long-term thinking, but nobody important is, and by now it's too late anyways. Oil production peaked in 2005, and as far as I know there hasn't been any major drive to get more nuke plants built since then.

Well yeah, the world's never going to *run out* of oil, it's just not going to have as much as it needs to function. Think of it this way; if your body needs 5 liters of blood and you've only got 2 liters in you, you might still have blood left but you're still going to die.

In the same vein, geothermal, solar, wind, etc. might produce *some* energy, but definitely not *enough* energy. Our only real hope is nuclear, but that only solves the problem of electricity, leaving the problems of transportation and petroleum products (particularly agricultural chemicals) unsolved.

If we are to ever get out of this planetary rock we have to remove our human morals, become cold and calculating logical machines, and transform ourselves into a completely different entity. The outer space is a ruthlessly inaccessible environment for our current forms. It is scaled way too up for our animalistic senses. If we do not try to overcome this factor by using any means necessary, emotions, illogicalness, social problems such as tribalism, multiculturalistic conflicts and uncontrolled breeding will be our undoing (/b/, /fa/, /adv/ among others may serve as a reference to this kind of degenerate behavior).

this guy was built this anteni thing placed in the ground and then we drove a few miles away from it and placed a light buld in the ground and it lit up

some how he gather the enegry from the plantes EMF to lite the blub.

the govermnet got very intersted in this and WHERE planing on building hugh towers all over the states to gater power from the EMF.

but it could also be used as a weapon and send these huge lighting bolts to earth with more force then like 100 nukes

so they scraped it becouse it could be misused and they don't know what the effect on the earths EMF it would have.

so we could try that out for a new power source

No problem for me.
Even IF humanity decides do just ride itself into the ground, which I doubt will happen due to governments and policy change (you get enough angry people who have to pay 8 bucks for gas, you have a problem), we will plunge into a Mad Max/Fallout period for about 200 years or so, and then discover some new tech and move on again. Precisely. It's not quite so "fail, and face complete extinction" in the case of, say, a massive asteroid hurtling toward Earth, but there is apt incentive to adapt more quickly to other technologies, some of which do and do not yet exist. Certainly some may perish in the transition, you and I even, and many may face difficult times, but in the end we will survive as a whole; we will because we must.
