Ask a 14 year old, turning 15 in May, who's going to college early after I finish grade 9 (and I have no summer because I chose to only take a week off for a summer), and majoring in mathematics, anything.

pic unrelated, but a brilliant piano player

lol if this is real (most likely not, or probably some shitty unknown school):

How was your talent discovered? Did it come naturally or did someone push you? How did you get exposed to higher level mathematics so early? I remember back before college, all they did with gifted math students was hand them harder problems and send them to honors classes. Then USAMO rolled around... that was a total surprise for me.

Do you think they're "true"? How do you feel when you say that there exists a "lessthan" relation for which every non-empty subset of the real numbers contains a least element? That really bugs me. I might even call it false.

For the axiom of choice, it seems natural that there exists a function which maps every single non-empty subset of the reals to an element in the input set.

Do you agree?

First, the school is local. It's Capilano College.
Well, no, no one pushed me. I started talking to my tutor about different subjects other than homework which I felt was getting very tiring. So we started talking about I think analytical philosophy, sadly because I saw Noam Chomsky talking about it. But I guess the real way I discovered it was realizing I hated my textbooks so I just learned myself (and teachers have helped me in school, including mathematics teachers), and wrote in a few notebooks making notes, and trying to form newer mathematical concepts. I guess it fired off from there. I got exposed to them through my tutor. By the way, my tutor was originally for French because I was failing.

Do you mean which area in mathematics am I most interested in?

>>2244667
The simplest answer to that is I don't know, because I don't. But what you're saying isn't completely beyond my head. Do you have any other way of communication other than here? (don't mean to be so personal, it's just hard to respond to all these at the same time, plus it seems like you would be good to talk to). Also, just letting you know, I don't know a ton about set theory, I do know about Cantor's life though.
The latter, if you do have another form of communication, we can talk about later.

And, to me, mathematics is beautiful.
Bertrand Russell puts it best,
"Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty — a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show. The true spirit of delight, the exaltation, the sense of being more than Man, which is the touchstone of the highest excellence, is to be found in mathematics as surely as poetry."

Grade 10-12, sure.
It depends on your location but...
Your grade 8 and 9 marks and anything before that honestly mean nothing to colleges or any tertiary education. As a matter of fact, you could fail your courses in grade 9 and if your parents said they wanted you in grade 10, you'd be put in grade 10.

The thing is, I got those grades because of boredom of apathy; not because I tried and failed. You shouldn't really worry about it that much until you get to grade 10. And if you want to get into college early, well, to be honest, there isn't a clear cut path, but I'm doing it and people have done it, so there's obviously a path to doing it.
