So, I'm in the lounge at our physics building with about 3/4ths of my Phys I class and we're all pretty sure we just failed the final.

Apparently it makes sense in the mind of a first-time physics professor to spend an entire semester giving students quizzes, homework assignments, and midterms where none of the calculations require the use of a calculator... then give a final where every fucking problem ends up giving you radicals and fractions for every fucking variable, you're not allowed to use a calculator, and the problems are all at least two orders of magnitude harder than anything the class has done up to that point. In spite of 4-6 hour study sessions every night this last week, and god knows how many hours more of solo studying, only three of the guys in the room were able to finish more than about half the questions on the exam.

tl;dr It's been a long fucking finals week... can /sci/ hook us up with some science-themed lulz to help us decompress?

probably a dept. final...i dunno what kind of fucktarded trend that is but I just took a final in physics too.

Lucky for us it was a retard-mode physics test compared to the regular tests we took. I barely used a calculator and none of the work took up more than the space in the margin.

Dude, they all do that. Make it seem fuckeasy during the courses, but the finals are always fucking hard. Make more difficult exercises next time. Or you just don't understand it enough to extrapolate the easy level to the hard level. Anyway, I know what you mean and I feel you. It's sucky but you'll get over it, if anything, you'll learn from it.

I feel ya man. Just got out of a genetics test where over half the questions were worded so vaguely as to have no single correct answer.

Hard is one thing, nigh impossible is another.

The homework we did for the course was usually half-hour problems (an hour for the something really difficult). Midterms were usually 8-10 questions split out over the hour, difficult but not as time consuming as the homework - doable within the given time.

The final was twenty questions, most of which made those half hour homework problems look simple.

Here's hoping.

The thing that sucks most is most of us were having a pretty good week up till now. I felt great about my calc and astro finals, one of the guys nailed his calc ii final, another did great on russian, etc etc.

holy shit, fractions? thats hard shit!

It is when you have to carry out multiple operations over the course of a lengthy physics problem.

Teachers are not allowed to make their own final exams.

Universities are required to do departmental finals to receive accreditation.

Your teacher was an ass though for not properly preparing you for it though.

I just finished physics 1 this semester and got a 98/100 in the class.

The teacher gave us quizzes, homework that were just shorter versions of the tests. There were no surprises on the final.

The teacher told us throughout the semester as we were going through each chapter that a problem similar to this would be on the final.

If you were paying attention and came to class throughout the semester, he essentially told us every question on the final.

Surprisingly the class average was still 62.

I would recommend talking to either the teacher or the dean because that wasn't fair without a calculator

Like for example, trying to find angular velocity when initial moment of inertia, initial angular velocity, initial mass, final mass, and final moment of inertia all end up being fractions that can't be simplified.

Shit, what a low level of education you have there

Have fun with your shit tier unaccredited university.

Your degree will be just valid if you had made it in paint yourself

If you actually paid attention to your studies you would have been working with a calculator for the sake of practicing instead of wanking to /sci/.
