Q5 part c, should it not be 1.1 instead of 0.9? studying for this exam and a quick yay/nay would be nice

one of the few courses in comp sci related to mathematics... lol

It's supposed to read like this:

y^(0)_1 = y_0 + hf^0 = 1 + 0.1(−(1^2)) = 0.9.

as

(-x^2) = -(x^2)

how is this true,
-1 * -1 = 1
- (1 * 1) = -1

>> No.2183316

>>2183303

Because exponentiation has higher precedence

- 1^2 = - (1 * 1) = -1

but you are right that it's unclear - they should have used parentheses to make it clear

eg.

(-1)^2
or
-(1^2)

i suppose this makes sense. but am i not still correct that as it stands it looks at though -1^2 =1. without the brackets i swear its -1 * -1

PATHALEONS OF RAGE TOWARDS MATHEMATICS

thanks though
