The jokes are so fucking shitty, like almost all sitcoms. It really takes a dunce to find this shit funny.

I don't like it very much. I watch Community and 30 Rock.

I also watch the Office out of habit, even though it jumped the shark already years ago.

They try so hard to introduce geek jokes, then have to explain them to people. Normal people see this and think "hey maybe that geek Friend of mine will like this i should introduce it to them." But its shit. The Setup is preposterous. good luck getting that weird of a mixing of geeks to meld together without killing each other. Some of those geek traits lead only to isolation, so faulty premise leads to completely fucked up show.

the fact that it has a laugh track does not help. They laugh at us, not with us, remember this.

The one guy is socially awkward and that's funny.

Seriously, I don't understand why /sci/ and every other board takes it so seriously.

My old calculus I professor likes the show. I remember one lecture, he was talking about asymptotes and he showed us a related BBT clip. Then he said, 'that's half true' and went on to explain his point.

The show doesn't take itself seriously and you shouldn't either /sci/.

My favorite shows on at the moment are 30 rock and Community. The writing in those shows are sharp. Writing in the BBT is formulaic, but entertaining none the less.

For those who will pull the 'intellectual' card on me:

Facts:

- Film was originally exhibition
- Commercialism created art and narrative cinema, which then led to television shows
- Film/Shows/w.e do not always strive to emulate reality as we know it, therefore we should never analyze a film/show/w.e by that characteristic

I have a doctorate in Astrophysics and this show is dead-on in some ways, and it's just good for casual watching. If you take this show seriously, you're just a boring fuck who things they're "more intelligent" than the show. Get over yourselves, you narcissistic morons.

I'm a physics/math major at the moment. The science in this show is right to half right most of the time. I never hear something impossible (unless when it's obviously a joke).

The stuff on the boards are just random characters. The syntax isn't right.

good show. its interesting but the characters hold flaws and as sheldon is supposed 2 b brilliant it would require the creator to know brilliance which isnt quite the case.

Yes, it does mean exactly that. We both know, there will be no lectures on hydrodynamics on mainstream television - this is a simple fact. BBT at least is one of the few (or the only) shows (!) that somehow touch the aspect of post-doctoral science and keeps it near the reality. Science in Stargate makes me cringe. If you don't like the show, so be it. Noone is going to give you shit for that, but in terms of the science portrayed here .. it's way above everything else on popular tv right now.

it is a show that is meant to be funny to as many people as possible, not the top 5%.
They do have doctorates that check the work on the boards and help write the show, much like Brian Greene with 3rd Rock from the Sun (great show). But Big Bang doesn't necessarily have to keep everything 100% factual.
I've actually seen more mistakes when they reference psychology or medicine than the do with physics or mathematics. But those mistakes are so the general population knows what the hell they are talking about.
