The old SAT (pre-2005) was only a rough estimation of cognitive ability. I believe the researchers finding the correlation compared it to the new AFQT (post 2002, it had about 4 subtests removed during the change), which is not an IQ test any longer. Even before the change, the AFQT shouldn't be considered a "good" IQ test, as a few of the subtests didn't excel at actually measuring intelligence over scholastic knowledge, but the correlations were strong enough on the other tests not not make this terribly relevant (statistically). Now about half to 3/4 of the test is made up of achievement-like constituents.

But even if they didn't use the new AFQT for the correlation, the old SAT wasn't really extensive enough to be valid for self assessment.

But, assuming you're cognitively healthy, your IQ is probably within a rough range of your ACT/SAT score.

In a series of tests I received while growing up:

I'm somewhere between 110 and 175. Realistically, I'm more close to 145. IQ tests become especially bullshit once you get past 130 anyway, as a single question can make a 10 point difference at that point. Special tests have to be created for finding exact values of higher IQs. In all tests I've taken, I've scored above average.

I was in all advanced classes while growing up and was even in Accelerated education. The requirement for getting into Accelerated Education was that you have an IQ of at least 135, good grades, excellent scores on a yearly standardized test, and teacher recommendation.

However, IQ only measures the size of the bucket, not what liquid is in it or how much. Sadly, almost everyone I knew that was in the Accelerated program is now doing poorly in life. Some of them have dropped out of school and living off minimum wage, others are into serious drugs. Some of them seem borderline retarded. I, myself, and doing horribly in the college I'm going to.

Long story short, "IQ doesn't matter as much as your 'I Will'". Quote from a cheesy poster that was always up in the Accel. Ed. room while growing up. Only now do I understand exactly how true that is.

It is certainly similar to Raven's Matrices but the scoring method or the problems themselves are certainly quite off.

The psychological community doesn't even take IQ tests seriously for accurate self assessment, Raven's Matrices is one of the worst. It has a sucky correlation with other tests of fluid intelligence (more extensive ones) that are utilized on the most effective IQ tests (WAIS and Binet 5). It certainly shouldn't be used as an aptitude test for a career and should merely be considered as a very rough estimation of one's innate reasoning ability.

A reverse digit span and reading span test should be given for attempting to predict career performance.

Also, that link made me think you were trolling.

>> No.2157707

i yet to see any support for your claims about the raven matrix exam being a poor indicator of a non-culturally biased measure of fluid intelligence.

I do agree however that IQ test don't accurately measure intelligence, unless it is testing for levels for retardation.

The two testing methods you mentioned are not the only indicators of intelligence. The number reversal is an indicator of short term memory and attention span.

I apologize for the delayed response, I've been AFK.

Reverse digit span and reading span do obviously indirectly measure attention span and short term memory, but they more specifically attempt to quantify working memory capacity and accuracy.

Working memory has a much stronger correlation with academic performance, achievement test performance, work performance, and general "success" than full scale intelligence. It even has a relevant positive correlation with self esteem.

Ravens Matrices (and Cattel Culture Neutral) only have relatively modest correlations to specifically the subtests of more accepted and accurate IQ tests (WAIS 5 and Binet 5) that measure specifically fluid intelligence. The correlations is even lower with general intelligence.
