An alien race that are attractive to the majority of humans? Highly unlikely.

An alien race that a small number of humans are fetishistically attracted to? Almost certain.

As long as it is physically possible to have sex with the alien, someone will find that alien attractive.

Can't help but think Extra-terrestrials that are more advanced than us, would evolve past the need to be sexually attractive. They all look ugly as shit. It would be like a clique of science geeks looking down upon us, but envying our superior looks.

>> No.2129196

Because a relationship with a baseline human woman would offer nothing new.

A relationship with a posthuman would be the most intellectually satisfying thing ever. Imagine meeting someone who thought you how to, say, turn Tennis balls inside out without making any holes or incisions, someone who could make up twelve patentable ideas before lunch and rewrite the laws of geometry, mathematics, et cetera.

Which is why in my novel the main character (Well, at least main during the 2070-2900 period) is a genetically-engineered super-furry human/clouded leopard hybrid with a posthuman-level intelligence who is discriminated and ignored beyond imagination and then helps design a relativistic interstellar vehicle and meets this Pretty Cool Guy Aerospace Engineer (*cough cough* much?) who doesn't treat her like an animal and everything is beautiful for four years, then he goes on that same interstellar ship, and eleven years later he returns only for her to watch his ship being taken down by a bunch of idiot luddites afraid that he might turn the relativistic ship into a relativistic bomb.

Nobody smiles again.

That's so incredibly boring I can't begin to describe it. I don't care about those people at all. They're just plain uninteresting. I'm not sexually attracted to people who can turn tennis balls out. And I'm not a furry. I don't know any furry publishers. I don't know anyone who cares about that. I'm sorry. But it's the truth.

I'm researching the Civil War so I can write a darkly humored political thriller involving a cunning United States Marshal. I think it's a little more... accessible.

>What are the chances of meeting an alien race that has a female gender/sex
A better question.

>> No.2129466

It took 6 billion years for life to evolve on this planet. We're orbiting a 3rd or 4th generation star, 3rd generation stars are probably necessary for the development of life seeing as how first generation stars would all be hydrogen only and 2nd generation stars would form in dust clouds primarily of hydrogen and helium from the first generation stars and containing only a few light metals. Planets such as Earth are only likely to form from 3rd generation stars and beyond.

Although 3rd and 4th generation stars certainly could have formed early in the universe the number of them would be significantly lower than today. Thus planets formed near stars before the formation of the earth 6 billion years ago would have been gas giants of helium and hydrogen or contain only very light metals.

It is possible that we're the first intelligent life in the universe or we're among a small group of very early sentient life forms anywhere. Even with our current technology we could seed the entire galaxy with human life in only a few hundred million years, this would help explain why we haven't seen such advanced cultures that have already done so. We may simply be among the first who can.

>> No.2129474

Depends on how you define female gender.
Something that cares for their young?
Something that contributes the ovum for reproduction?
Something that carries the young until birth?
something else entirely?

>> No.2129610

>>2129474

I'd argue that female defines any member of the species that produces ova or similar cells. Anything else can change with evolutionary needs but that's what I'd call at the core of a female. If, alternatively, two parents each contribute a pair of cells of equal character that merge into one, then traditional gender definitions are meaningless, but it could be possible to define a female by whichever assists most in the gestation of the embryo or carries it internally.
