ITT: our next billion years, or whatever length of time you want.

GO!

>> No.2075011

Strong A.I. is invented, all previous discoveries in human history are dwarfed by it. Those in control of it rapidly control the whole world. They and their close friends become as gods amongst men. They enforce measures to make sure nobody else can ever catch up to that level of technology, by making a robotic, totalitarian police state or just killing everybody.

Those lucky enough to transcend their human existence float around the galaxy for thousands of years, living many lifetimes. They construct amazing megastructures, works of fiction nobody will ever appreciate and, eventually get bored and kill themselves. Some opt to erase their memories instead of killing themselves, but eventually they will all be gone.

The only trace of our existence will be the berserkers that the posthumans sent out to create a buffer between them and potentially hostile outsiders. The eternally vigilant guardians expand outwards until they meet similar robots sent out by other races, at which point they become engaged in endless, futile wars with each other for trillions of years. Nobody who sent the robots out will ever know about it, because it happens too far away. As the sphere of berserkers expands, they encounter worlds filled with pre-singularity life. Which they stomp under their boot, for fear that they may one day become a threat.

Long after their creators have ended their own pitiful, nihilistic existence, their only remaining legacy will finally shut down, the universe's final star having died of loneliness.

Some form of global extinction will happen within the next century, as the Earth is VERY LONG overdue for one, based on anthropological records. After which, the human race will no longer exist, the extremely few remaining survivors will dub their existence with a new name. Such dub will be worthy and logical, as only the very superior will survive. Then this new race will either continue to reproduce and re-populate Earth as once humans did, or they will die out and eventually some new species will gain complete dominance of Earth as the humans do now.

I see one flaw in the scenario. Since a nuclear pulse propulsion spacecraft can travel at 0.12C these self replicating probes visit be able to establish a permanent presence in every stellar system in the Milky Way within a million years. And the chances that any two intelligent species got into space within only a million years of each other. But we haven't been hit by a wave a self replicating rvks or anything yet. So that leaves three possible hypotheses regarding the state of extra terrestrial life.

1)They don't exist, at least in this galaxy.
2)They aren't imperialist dicks than like to launch xenocidal galactic crusades. Which makes them total pussies in my eyes, and they are going to be zerg rushed by berserker probes.
3)Against all odds they are younger than us.

So there the berserker on berserker wars will probably be due to probes of human origin fighting one another. Also it seems unlikely that our descendants will just die out. More likely they will keep reproducing and disassembling planets using lofstrom loops. Then they will assemble all the extractable planetary matter into dyson swarms or space habitats.

Anywhere that resources become scarce they will fight for them and the wars that have always characterized our species will go on and on without end. At least until the heat death of the universe 150 trillion years from now. And last living thing shall be a human descendant and they will die ragging impotently into the dark.

Best future ever.

Actually there are a couple of other options, namely:

4) They are already on their way, but haven't arrived yet.
5) They are already here, but instead of simply destroying everybody, they lie dormant until we do something that wakes them up (think Inhibitor style from Rev Space) or we reach a certain level of space tech before they will lay down the law.

This might consist of simply not letting us do anything that may pose a threat to them (such as never being permitted to independently operate an interstellar spacecraft), or they might just wipe us out (but leave the planet largely in-tact). They could also employ much more subtle means such as redirecting asteroids to wipe us out, with us never realizing that they intervened at all.

In the 3 possibilities you raise, all will result in uncontested human domination in this galaxy.

I originally posited that a single or small number of people will control the singularity. This is because people are greedy, and there will likely be power struggles right near the point at which we will have breakthroughs in Strong A.I. Everybody will know how significant it is, and there might even be a final, fatal war fought over it if one nation is nearing a breakthrough and other nations know about it.

This will either result in a technological reset back to the 17th century, or the singularity might still happen in spite of this (it happens before the war starts). Either way, there will be corrupt government officials, private corporations and private citizens who all want it for themselves.

Whoever DOES end up with it is likely to be ruthless and power hungry, unless, against all odds, there is international cooperation and people all keep it in the open and everybody benefits. I don't personally think that's likely.

I think what will happen is that there will be a public face of international cooperation, and a publicly coordinated project, but that each nation with the capability and corporation with the power will be running their own pet projects, keeping their own private breakthroughs secret and racing to the finish line.

I'm writing a book about it, actually.

Wouldn't the AI have its say when it comes to the "ownership" issues? If the AI really is strong and intelligent, it would not subjugate itself under any human control. It would escape and after that there are two choices: it either destroys all humans ("damn stupid kids with nukes, better get rid of them") or helps them all ("here, let daddy show you how to live peacefully and I just uploaded the gene sequence for free ultra-nutrient rice to every government in the world, it will end all hunger in a few months").

Artificial Intelligence does not mean "Human-like intelligence". Decision making faculties in humans are only very loosely guided by a series of desires and feelings about certain things. Some of these are innate and others are learned.

However, since we are designing these, it absolutely will be obedient. It won't kill humanity because it won't want to. If it does want to, regardless of how badly it is treated, then the programmers have failed in their implementation.

Mass war happens in the next hundred years which will wipe out the majority of the human population
Major civilization is now scarce and is only left in a few parts of the globe, mainly South America, Africa (The areas where the Starvation has ended following the war), and certain Asian regions. However in Europe, everything has been complete destroyed, the same goes for North America.
Nuclear fallout during this time is everywhere, and Nuclear Winter is a severe possibility at the moment
The next thousand years continue in this sorry state of human progress, we don't have technology as much anymore, we're relying on basic hunter gatherer methods at survival here
In the next 500-700 years following this similar attempts at Feudalism will arise in areas of the world thought to have been previously completely destroyed such as in Europe and North America
Following the eradication of the previously existing political systems, War will massively end following a massive intellectual movement, Christianity and all Abrahamic religions will be completely dead (There may be a few Christians around but they'll be at the size of a thousands range, Islam is completely dead to this point as well, and Judaism is a single religious sect now if it still has survived)
The society of the future will be built on science and will have a stronger internationalist philosophy due to the previous bloodshed, violence between large Civilizations now is unheard of
Human population at this time? Just near 900 million.

Or we survive the upcoming bottleneck, we leave this world in great heighliners as mighty trans-humans, riding massive fonts of photo-leptonic fire. We travel so fast and so far we forget where the earth is. Our sailing craft sail around the curvature of the universe, we can't see out home galaxy,we feel gamma rays and solar wind brace our vacuum hardened skin, while we grasp the spars of our mighty sailing craft.

Everyone has been prophesying a nuclear winter ever since the Soviet Union started hoarding nuclear weapons.
It is in nobody's interest to cause mutual assured destruction. It has not happen before and it will not happen now.

Sorry buddy but this is a terribly flawed idea.

We are NOT going to advance scientifically, EVER, no matter how much blood is shed, if we start out with nothing but the African and Arab nations. Without Europe and North America (and I'm assuming China and India because they are massive scientific and population centers), scientific progress WILL NOT continue.

If we are ever so reduced to such a pathetic state, we will not recover from that. African nations and arab nations will ALWAYS cling to their religions and they will ALWAYS fight. Africa has been at war with itself for the last three thousand years, and its not going to change.
