So, /sci/, how does it feel to know that your hero is a liberty-hating bolshevik?

Carl Sagan is an idiot. Homeless people?!? The reason isn't money. It's irresponsible behavior. I talked to a person who ran a soup kitchen. He said the majority of the people there are dope addicts. All the money in the world can't cure stupid.

it's always either addicted to dope or severely mentally ill. the hard workers who are hard up rarely stay on the streets and my heart goes out to the ones that do. we should help them, they can contribute when they get back on their feet. but the dopers and the nuts? spend the money on finding a cure to dope addiction and the crazy and homelessness will solve itself

But it can eliminate stupid before it becomes a lifelong problem. (If spent well)

He said "our babies..." In other words, he doesn't believe that individuals have the right to deal with their affairs as they wish. I don't consider anyone's baby "my" baby. But by invoking the word "we" and "our" he is basically saying that all babies belong to everyone. Everyone's business is my business. I own everything.

You sound so dumb right now.

That's just what stood out to me, and it encapsulates a political ideology that seems well meaning, but goes against the principle of liberty.

The government doesn't own babies. It doesn't own people's lives, and it isn't there to make sure that everyone grows up to be a productive member of society. It is there to protect our rights. That is all.

Not only that, but the government CAN'T make people into good citizens. It doesn't have the capability. END OF STORY.

I don't understand Americans going on about "freedom".

There's more than one sort of freedom. Stability and security is a kind of freedom, it's freedom from fear. Is the freedom to own a bazooka really more important?

Authoritarian Technocrat here, basically this. It's difficult to believe that Anti-Tank weapons are legal to own with the right paperwork, but it is.

Also, is freedom really that important? Laws were originally designed to regulate interaction between human beings.
