nope, if you have a short rod, and push 1 end, it appears that the other end moves instantaneously, it doesn't hough, there is some delay. the rod slightly compresses, and the movement is sent along it as a wave, at very close to the speed of light, its so fast, it seems instantaneous. but a very long rod, several light years long, and this wont happen instantaneously, the impulse will reach the other end at slightly slower than the speed of light.

hmm, if i have a very long steel rod, (held up with 'Y' supports at various places along the way...) i stand at one end of a football pitch, 2 people at the other, one is standing with his back against the final 'Y' stand a centimeter away from the end of the rod. the other peson is standing next to him.
I will push the rod forward a few inches, at the same moment as i shout "GARETHH!!!" the person with his back to the rod, has been instructed to raise his hand immediately as soon as he feels the rod jab him in the back, the second person has been instructed to raise his hand when he hears the word' gareth'

... i think rod guy will raise his hand first...the steel rod must be faster than sound... i think it would be. i've shouted to mates accross the park before, and theres a good second or so before they react... i rekon steel rod will be faster.

All perpetual motion machines are impossible. Just follow the energys the see why. Where is the energy coming from that causes the balls to float to the top. Its the potential energy of the water due to gravity. But where did that potential come from? The water had to be lifted up by the ball at the bottom entering the tank. Then energy you put in is the energy you get out.

The ball has to be forced into the bottom, lifting a column of what above it increasing the potential energy of that water. That potential energy then goes back into the ball. But due to friction and what not, some energy will be lost forever, and the machine will eventually stop running.

No, it has nothing to do with friction. It's inertia, which is part of F = ma.
Newton's words:

"The vis insita, or innate force of matter, is a power of resisting by which every body, as much as in it lies, endeavours to preserve its present state, whether it be of rest or of moving uniformly forward in a straight line."

The greater the mass the greater the objects resistance to change in motion i.e. the more force required for an acceleration (F=ma).

uhhh yeah dude.

its called geothermal energy.

they have a geothermal plant in Hawaii

they pollute the ecosystem by dumping shit tons of hot water into the ocean.

Someday, I will make a homebrew sandbox game that implements these troll physics of yours, and you'll download it and play it, and only then will you be sorry.

Ok I don't get whats going on here but..fuck here's what I want to ask;
You see, there's this anime (Voices of a Distant Star)
>In the middle of the anime proper, she sends an email to Noboru (which shows the date 2047-09-16), with the subject "I am here", saying "to the 24 year old Noboru, from the 15 year old Mikako" which would only reach him 8 years, 224 days and 18 hours later, and just hopes it reaches him.

Ok fuck I don't know how to explain it, but the girl remained young while the guy grew old.
Fucking anime man, fuck magnets.
Anyway if someone manages to get my point, well..explain it to this retard.

Shit nigga
I don't understand shit about quantum mechanics. Can you give an easy explanation.
And how do I learn more about this shit (online?). It's like miracles and magnets to me.

This couldn't work because you wouldn't be able to tie the other end of the string to a generator one handed.

it has nothing to do with quantum mechanics. it is a result of mathematics. experiment simply agrees with the math.

you know how normal numbers can do things like:

multiply:

A x B = B x A....

well, the things you use in quantum mechanics to measure stuff... which are called Operators... which basically just means "a bunch of derivatives and plus signs cobbled together, as well as the way these derivatives and plus signs affect certain types of functions".... Operators DONT multiply like normal numbers

in general:

A*B =/= B*A

in order for 2 things to be measured at the same time, then both things must "commute" with one another.

basically, it means that you can write down equations for both with the same "point of view"

commute means: A*B = B*A for the operator.

if this is true, then both can be "viewed" at the same time...

if they are not equal, then they cannot be viewed at the same time.

The position of a particle does not commute with the momentum of a particle.
the Troll pic exploits the fact that, if you know one exactly, then the other one must be infinitely uncertain (equal probability for all possible values, or a flat distribution)...

"sit on" the electron means set its momentum equal to a constant, absolute value...

then the uncertainty in position is infinite, and you have no idea where the particle is.

also, wouldnt the photons just emit/reabsorb from the inner surface of the bag continously without imparting any net momentum?

if the photons DID impart net momentum, wouldnt they just rip through the bag at any time?
