I love me some James Burke.

Connections was awesome in it's scope and depth.

Make a room 300 000 km in length that is made of mirrors, switch light on on the other end and quickly block the side with a mrror.

Endless reflecting light.

Has a PHD in philosophy, and a BA not BS. Argues about existence supernatural shit, when science is the study of natural phenomena only. Couches personal opinions that can never be supported or denied due to the lack of data.
Not much of a scientist.

I always wanted someone to try and popularize science with the philosophical "look at the majesty and beauty and bla bla bla" approach.

Like say talking about using nuclear pulse propulsion to conquer the solar system. Or the awesome physics of weapons. Or how cool it is to drill for oil and gas. Something less, pansy you know.

Agreed. It'd be cool if there was an interactive atlas of "connections".

The trouble is that you have to make unscientific claims to popularize science. Laymen just aren't interested in real science.

I think he'd be interested in Nuclear Space Battleships Fuck Yeah. And talking about newtonian physics by describing the complex interactions that occur when a bullet hits it's target would also get their attention.

People find war stories interesting because they have conflict. The if the popular perception of the scientist as cool and peacable were shattered they may be much more interested in science carries. Treat every thing as a conflict. We're crushing the weak biosphere and enslaving it, we're stealing the blood of the planet to fuel our machines, we're going to spread and rape every world we come across. Imperialism for the win, my friends.

Really the "billions of billions" type of argument never appealed to me. Then again my whole job is pretty much acquire more vespene gas, so maybe I'm a little biased.
