ITT: Your pet peeves about great scientists

Einstein is amazing and all, but the thing about him that gets me was how pro-popsci he was. No matter what he contributed or taught, he would always dumb it down for the mainstream audiences, I almost can't take him seriously anymore when realizing this.

Don't flatter yourself OP.

I can understand more than you, and the majority of the population. I hate how jerks like to dumb science down to explain it to an artfag or 6-year-old, when they should just take the same amount of time and effort to learn it like we did; it's not fair ._.

This.

If you just gave 'science' to the stupid masses 'as is' they'd just go wtfisthisshit.jpg and fuck off because they're too busy doing shit that they think matters (but really doesn't) to give a shit about things that do matter but think don't.

Knowing the formula E=mc^2 doesn't mean you understand relativity OP.

One space ship going at 0.9 C towards the right passes a ship going at 0.8 C towards the left. What do people in each ship observe?

>> No.1908375

You have to understand, OP that Einstein was pretty popular, and it's not like his theories weren't controversial. Of course people were interested in it, so he made it accessible.

The public should have access to the results of science, especially to that which is publically funded.

Can I have that crystal-ball of yours for a second?

Goddamn, you're all ignorant. Making science popular is the thing to do if you want to get rid of hate-spewing rednecks everywhere. Also, OP, I am disgusted by

I know, it's probably hard being 15 and being surrounded by seemingly empty vessels, but don't have such an exaggerated opinion of yourself. It only makes life harder.

How is science meant to get anywhere if scientists hide off any discoveries from peers? How are other scientists meant to acknowledge a discovery if the discoverer doesn't explain their hypothesis, methods, and reasoning behind the experiment that led to their discovery? You come in here claiming to be smarter than the majority of the population. I find that hard to buy OP.

Despite what people seem to believe, Einstein actually couldn't understand science very well without finding a way to dumb it down for himself. It's why he's in favor of layman terms and "popsci"" when teaching/explaining it.

asshole, also if I had never read Carl Sagan I wouldnt be interested in science, Einstein is one of the resigns people are interested in science, if he hadnt "dumbed it down" then there would be substantially less well educated people out their.

In order to (correctly) dumb something down, wouldn't you have to understand it yourself first?
Also, how do you dumb down which hasn't been discovered?

he learned the "dumbed down" version, because that was easier to understand.

knowing jargon doesnt make you smarter than everyone else OP, you would be wise to learn that.

Without capitalism you wouldn't have food, a home, water, a sewer system, police to stop you from being raped to death, and funding for your science. You really don't have much perspective.

Meh I agree with OP for the most part. Most people don't know science, they just know about it. The facts and concepts mostly are descriptive.

Like 90% of documentarys on anything in physics; they don't teach you anything in the subjects they just give you overviews of what the subjects contain. And people construe that to knowing physics, it's fucking annoying.

So scientists should not explain their knowledge in laymans terms so the general public remain completely ignorant? Scientists should only keep their knowledge base within their own community? Without dumbing down GR you would have absolutely no idea of it's significance.
