Sig Figs, why do we bother with this shit?

That's easily manageable without having to do be sodomized every-time you give a solution without this shit. Exact values are way more precise anyway.

$429,000 house.

I want two of them.

$424,000 x 2.0 = $848,000

Realtor shouldn't get mad if I give him $800,000 right?

In today's housing market, the realtor would probably take it.

My only problem is with the inexact conversion bullshit. Fuck rounding just give the exact value and stop sodomizing my mark for it.

You seem to have an obsession with sodomy.... I suspect some unresolved feelings going on here.

I wish they taught you kids what precise meant.

2+2=8

1+82=8

1^2=8

Together, these are precise statements.Precise means that the values have a very small standard deviation. You are looking for the word accurate.

You need 3 significant figures. Houses come in whole integers (if you're buying one, at least) so you don't say 2.0 houses (in which case you would need 2 sigfigs, instead of your answer of 1)
Also, you mega-derped by dropping the house pricetag by 5000 in the same post. 429,000 * 2 = $858,000
Be glad that I fixed your mistakes, else you would have been arguing to pay $42,000 more for the 2 houses

>> No.1896951

>>1896928
Well if that is precise, fuck it. This is worse than the deranged bullshit they teach in a humanities class.

>> No.1896972

Its very simple if given a specific set of scientific measurements say from experiment, you calculate some property or value, sig figs are a simple way to keep track of how accurate you can claim to know that property. And as you begin to extrapolate small scale measurements over larger and larger scales to say extrapolate bulk properties from micro scale measurements, such knowledge is damn important.

Nothing a spreadsheet can't do without having to be fucked in the anus with sig figs.
