do you think the public understanding of Science is getting better or worse?

what would Carl Sagan think of the internet in that sense? ( he died before the internet as we know it)

>> No.1876667

as far as mainstream people go

people are still plain stupid.

they only use the internet for facebook

>> No.1876668

in USA, worse.
everywhere else, better.

enjoy your creation museums.

>> No.1876678

definitely worse

Britfag here, it is definitely no better here.

For a bunch of nerds, you guys can be pretty fucking dumb.

Understanding of science is improving and scientific knowledge is readily available all over the fucking place.

The improvement of education is lagging, but it's still better than when our parents were kids...

No. the absolute majority is not scientifically literate

even some engineer majors are retards.

you are talking about college being accesible to a lot of people compared to past years.. sure this is true. but i would say that universities turn into "fast food" education, just to appeal to everyone.

still universities are serious about science.. but this by no means that anyone that attends a university will be scientifically literate.. in this light i believe there were more educated people at college in the 60s-50s-70s etc.

This thread proves that everyone on /sci/ is really just elitist hipsters.

It's getting better you dumbfucks

Mom goes:
"Hot water cools faster, put hot water in the freezer and ice cubes get made faster!"

mfw.jpg I got to explain that it's the FUCKING RATE of loss of energy that's bigger, not the time it takes to get to freezing point!

FUCKING BITCH DOESN'T EVEN KNOW ABOUT EXPONENTIAL DECAY! FUCK!

I tried explaining but she got scared and called the police! And you just know those fuckers failed NFL tryouts. They wouldn't listen. Ignorance is fucking everywhere!

>> No.1876882

A little bit better, but the people ignorant about science are getting a lot louder.

Way way better, most of the public knows the world is round and that it orbits the sun, also most people believe germs cause disease. All school children know Newton's laws even if they don't really understand them.

no, I can't speak to the whether or not the instantaneous rate of change of scientific literacy is positive or negative, but I do know that the trend has been upward for the past thousand years, and I don't forsee it going down anytime soon.

Not valid for ice cubes since no convection currents... So, a thin insulating film of ice forms when water is tepid, but when boiling a convection current starts up and distributes heat faster. Neato!

My mind is blown!

/sci for once you have not failed me.

:D

My only hope is that my mom recovers fully so she do a "I told you so".
