I'm a Junior; I'll probably take the SAT in February for the first time.

I took the PSAT last year and got 217, so I think I have it down for the most part.

If you have any questions u can ask me anon :3

Bring a graphing calculator and know how to use it well. As for reading a writing, just wing it like I did.

I used to have lots of trouble with CR too.

It's all about using skills/hax.

Read the questions before the passage, and start by reading the first sentence of each paragraph, and take notes as you read through it.

Right on. I had an introduction with a clear thesis, three supports with good examples and quotes (it was about leaders and their role, I cited something out of Plato's Republic, some successful monarchies in Europe, and a third thing I can't remember), and a neat conclusion. BUT I physically write slowly and the whole thing was a succinct 1 page, so I got a 6 on my essay and 650 total on writing. If you were to discount the essay and scale up the rest of that section to be worth a max 800, I would have gotten 740.

In short: I lost 90 points because I wrote succinctly. That was the difference between a 2230 and a 2320.

Because you need to actually understand mathematics. It has no complex calculations at all, and a calculator won't help you unless you suck at doing basic things in your head and need a machine for it.
Also, a lot of people DO ace the math section, because it doesn't require almost any techniques specific to this test format, whereas Writing and Critical Reading do.

>> No.1869002

>>1868979
We aren't talking about "book-reports" class man. We're talking about reading and writing.

For almost any career, the ability to communicate effectively using the written word - in other words, writing and critical reading - is far more important than mathematics. In a small fraction of the jobs out there, mathematics is equally or more important.

But I maintain: troll.
