>"Prior to this study we knew that telomeres get shorter and shorter as a cell divides and that when they reach a critical length, cells stop dividing or die," said Karlseder, an associate professor in the Molecular and Cell Biology Laboratory.

>Karlseder and O'Sullivan found that aging cells simply made less histone protein than do young cells. "We were surprised to find that histone levels decreased as cells aged," said O'Sullivan, the study's first author.

>But this study suggests that aging itself is infinitely complex: that progressive telomere shortening hastens chromosomal aging by changing the way genes entwine with histones, so-called "epigenetic" changes.

>According to O'Sullivan, "It might take another 50 years before a cure for aging will see the light".

At least Ill still be alive in 50 years

I expect to be alive in 50 years.

Then, we can work out de-aging in our eternity together.

>> No.1848426

so they're closer to figuring out how aging really works...

then wouldn't this be a huge leap forward?

Even if we do find that it is very complex, if we can actually see the goal we can move towards it quickly, and definitely faster than 50 years. I wonder what aubrey de grey thinks about this article...

Wouldn't genetically modifying humans to have circular DNA fix all this?

yes lets all get on this easily feasible simple solution!

>> No.1848453

You do realize the 50 year timeline is the date she said for SOLVING aging. Aubrey de grey said that of course we wouldn't cure aging anytime soon, but we CAN move towards it and develop treatments to delay aging and give us more time until the next step of treatments develops.

Beating aging is still feasible, even if you're in your 40s.

Good luck with that. This is one of those things they perpetually say is 50 years away. Like strong AI.

Also
>When aging cells were engineered to express telomerase, the enzyme that restores and extends stubby telomeres, those rejuvenated cells showed histone levels reminiscent of "happy, healthy chromatin," and a partial return to a youthful chromatin profile.

You suddenly realize many things:
- dolan is a troll
- nowhere in the article it says that aging will maybe be cured in 50 years
- you didn't read the article
- you feel relieved

You assholes CANCER is the real problem with aging, not some sort of retarded biological clock idea. That and damage to cells that do not get replaced.

U mad? Nobody in 5 generations has gotten cancer in my family on either end, and almost everyone of them is a chain smoker. Lovely genetics here. Go die from your failure to be born with the right body.
