So /sci/, as a space currency which would be better: Quasicrystal or Gold? Also is there a better option and if so what is it?

here's the quid, as you can see it is far superior to hugs and rape dollars though latinum would be cool if it could be made

I'll actually give you the correct answer as a reward for being so patient before bumping.

In the future in which all civilizations have advanced so far that they would hold no value for any particular natural resource, the currency of this society would be knowledge.

>a space currency

lolololololo
By the time we're a space-faring race we'll most probably have something like the Australia Project with abundance and pretty much everything is cheap as SHIT with some standardized credit system.
There's too much of anything in space to use it to trade. For instance, you'll most probably find several kilos of gold inside a smallish 100m diameter asteroid at least. Wouldn't be too hard to find some other metal to replace, but same problem. Abuncance.

aha! well i agree completely but for many years to come we will be human and as we come into a new age of space exploration i have now started to wonder what currency we'll come as a result and beleive me we are far from becoming that advanced unless we learn from extraterrestrial or divine intervention

no... you don't understand what he's saying. in our current monetary system, money has no actual value. none. we may as well use monopole dollars. the only reason our economy's function is more or less because people believe money has value.

why do you think i asked GOLD or quasicrystal cuz i know especially in space currency can't be paper

>> No.1831404

The future and space won't need currency. Advanced artificial intelligence, molecular engineering, and industrial automation would make possible a post-scarcity economy.

Currency will be pretty much useless.

your repeating the same shit over and over again, Im sure that in the future we wont have currency but all im asking is in the event that some country colonizes some part of the moon or anything of the kind what would best suit as a currency again in the event that there is still a need for currency, perhaps gold or quasicrystal or quid or any other spaceproof material

I would honestly say that it will be digital. Rather than carry around currency in an environment where space and resources would probably still be at a premium and the environment inherently hostile anyway, your thumbprint or something will give access to an account in your name. It'd be the ubiquitous science fiction "credit" that you'd earn for your work periods.
