So... is it finally known why we weren't able to see what astronomical object hit the jupiter in 2008 and even forsee it?

If not: conceptions, anyone?

So there was a collision, that happened about 2 years ago. Something had hit the jupiter and humanity wasn't able to see what was that and wasn't even prepared for it. We know that something hit the Jupiter only because we were able to see the effect of the collision.

This is a grim case; if we weren't able to forsee this collision, there's a possibility, we won't be able to forsee if something similar will happen to earth.
