not good enough at electronics to figure this out...

my friends is giving me his old 9800gt. its a one gig model but it is powered completely by pcie bus. no 6 pin connector.i read that my pcie 2.0 bus can handle up to 150 watts and the card operates at 75 since its designed pcie x16. my question is can i overclock it and not worry about frying it using only power from pcie bus? im not gonna overclock it more than 20% on mem and 20% on core.

Short answer: Yes, you can overclock it.

Long answer: Because of the nature of the card (I own and am currently using a 9800GTX+, same shit just a physics processor added in) most of the overclocking you'd do would only increase your FPS by maybe 3-6. To tell you the truth, you probably won't need to overclock at all. If you're worried about frying your PSU, GPU, or Mobo, I wouldn't be. I say OC till you feel comfortable, but it won't really be needed.

over clock it till you see artifacts, the downclock it until you dont, simple.
