hey /sci/

I was thinking today and realised, math is completely pointless. Why do we need to learn math when we have calculators do it for us? Sure we needed it originally but why carry on after the development of calculators? It all seems a bit pointless if you ask me.

To program calculators, you need math. The end.

>> No.1707826

Calculators generally operate using finite precision, us humans deal with infinite precision.
Guess which one is supreme and which one causes a shitload of problems when calculating something.

I for one, do not welcome our calculator overlords. It's a lot like trusting politicians when they say "It's cool, man".

Nice doublepost, trollfag. What happened.. you didn't see the first immediately so you made the second? lol

The calculator. I use it for my math homework all the time. Never let me down yet.

>>1707821
But computers can program the calculators for us. Problem solved

>> No.1707852

Calculators don't do math. They only do arithmetic.

>> No.1707854

Seriously, you don't need math if you wanna calculate something... Calculators will just do it for you! There isn't a need to study math at all, if we have machines that do it for us.

I was thinking today and realised, science is completely pointless. Why do we need to know science when we have textbooks do it for us? Sure we needed it originally but why carry on after the development of textbooks? It all seems a bit pointless if you ask me.

You clearly haven't achieved an acceptable level of education yet, try guessing again.

For a clue, google "condition number" or "well-conditioned problem" and "ill-conditioned problem".

You also may not want to rely on your calculator's graphing functionality, just so you know.

>> No.1707871

Calculators do not understand mathematics. Without learning it, you have no idea what you're doing. If noone learned mathematics, then as a whole it would stagnate and noone would be capable of saying what went wrong if they did something wrong.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about.
Google told me it's a cultural reference I'm missing.
