A week ago I agreed with you. This goes beyond Elon. There's a big schism among the elite right now, new money (tech) is on Trump. Elon is just a sperg about it (like everything else). Keep in mind that in the last five years they have
>released a man made virus during the presidency of the first guy not hand picked by the CIA since Nixon
>stolen the election like they do in third world countries
>had their guys rally radicals to storm the capital like they do in third world countries
These people are obsessed with power for it's own sake. They would kill everyone not in their grasp if they could get away with it. Elon isn't exaggerating, these people are anti human extinctionists. No matter what friends he makes, no matter what money he spends, they wouldn't let Mars happen for the same reason they didn't let South Africa happen, and attempted to prevent America from happening before that.

If he loses then the democrats will do everything they can to charge him with crimes and seize his assets. Besides Trump only has four more years, there's no guarantee that the next republican candidate has his charisma, and the next democrat candidate will still want him put away. Elon can probably get to Mars in four years, but he won't be doing much after that if the pendulum swings back left for the 2028 election.
Betting on the next four years isn't worth it when he needs a decade to secure a Martian colony.

both Berger and Foust have destroyed their reputations as objective neutral reporters with this
not sure whats going on here, are they personally writing these due to being very pro-democrat? are they being pressured by their editors somehow? is there some editorializing going on and their names are put on these stories to give them more believable (as both journalists have had good reputations until now of mainly being objective and factual)

>>16450602
reputation laundering makes sense but they have to see that this makes them seem partisan, no?
and if Trump wins, which he is favoured to do at this point, then this torpedoing of their reputations was all for nothing pretty much

They have nothing left to lose now. Right now the reputation laundering to hurt Musk is to sink Trumps' allies so that he doesn't win. The attack angle on Musk is as such, "Trump is close with a guy who is betraying the country by talking to Russians in secret! WOW HOW UNAMERICAN! TRUMP HAS THAT GUY CLOSE TO HIM? A NAZI RUSSIAN ASSET!!!"
What has Bill Nelson to lose if Trump wins? He'll be dead by the end of Trump's term anyway. But he has more to gain by pushing his political partisan views so that his leftist party wins the election

>A few years ago, for example, another seal was found with about four inches of eel hanging out of its nostril. The team was worried about the potential danger to the seal: It was wheezing a bit, and if it dove deep or tried to swim, the nose eel might have created a passageway for water to enter the seal’s lungs. The research team decided it was worth capturing the seal—for no more than 60 seconds—to try to remove the nasal invader.

>In practice, the removal took no more than 45 seconds, even though that eel turned out to be almost two feet long. “We are pretty sure the complete animal was removed, as the skull was found, but some fins or spines may have come off the eel during the removal,” the researchers wrote on Facebook. “The seal did not struggle very much, and no blood came out when the eel was being removed.”

>This latest nose eel was also removed, with a “slow, steady pull.” The seal was unharmed; the eel, however, perished.

SpaceX turned that theory on its head, rapidly eclipsing what any government-run space agency is capable of, making a huge mockery out of the ESA in particular, proving that only capitalism can take humanity to the stars. Leftists will never forgive Elon Musk for this. They want him dead.

>ESA is just European NASA.
No, they're much worse than that. NASA at least invests in the development of commercial space industry, via programs like COTS, CCDev, etc. A substantial portion of NASA may have to be dragged kicking and screaming through these processes, but it still gets done. All the ESA is good for is making Ariane-affiliated bureaucrats rich.

The EU is a bit of a meme as a whole imo. You only need to cross the border to your neighboring country and they'll have an entirely different work culture and stuff, and on top of that you're communicating with your second or third language (English). Let's imagine ESA manages to pull ten thousand top tier engineers from all over Europe, it seems like it would be a nightmare managing everyone. It just makes everything a bit more awkward. And nobody is patriotic for "Europe" either, in the same way someone at NASA might be like hell yeah let's make America achieve this thing. I don't care what's going on in France

it's the same with wolves.
wolves ended up getting gimped on their road to minmaxing intelligence because they didn't happen to have the limbs perfect for tool use that we did.
the tool use intelligence reinforcement selection process never happened with anyone but humans and to some degree apes.
if you genetically grafted hands onto a dog and allowed them to do their thing for a few million years they would probably discover fire.

V2 gives them heatshield data, control software data, re-entry heating data on ship and booster, etc. Hardware rich development means build everything all the time always. If SpaceX hadn't tested Raptor 1 because they were waiting for Raptor 2 which was obsoleted by Raptor 3, the "real" engine they would still be trying to design it to get it work first time. This is the SLS development cycle, autistically engineer and test and simulate everything so it works first try, but not really because you inevitably missed something, so you need to go back and do hundreds of thousands of hours of more autistic engineering because each test article costs eight billion. This is the engineering project management equivalent of the invention of Calculus, it is just better than what people were doing before. Starship / Superheavy is multiple orders of magnitudes better than its competitors, and this style of development cycle is the main reason why. This is what the secret sauce is, and people still don't get it.
Always be testing.

The magnetic field protects against losing atmosphere on a less massive planet like Mars which gets blowtorched without one and allows lighter gasses to escape Mars' gravity. Mars' current atmosphere has a lot more heavy isotopes of carbon and argon.
This is why Venus has no hydrogen (outside sulfuric acid) despite being earth-sized, the hydrogen got heated up, then got energy from the solar wind and sailed off into space.

>The modernisation of NASA in the 70s was part of the US Federal Design Improvement Program – an initiative instigated by the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) at the behest of President Richard Nixon. Under this scheme, more than 45 federal agencies, including The Department of Agriculture and The National Zoo, had their graphics critiqued and redesigned: New York design studio Danne & Blackburn was tasked with the job of modernising NASA’s logo.
Based Nixon gave us the worm
>For all its modern appeal and design rigour, the logotype was retired from official use in 1992. According to NASA’s new administrator at that time, Dan Goldin, the worm was disliked by the agency’s employees and complaints had been received about the logo’s “incompetence and lack of projection”. However, some argue that Goldin was motivated to make the change by more than just design aesthetics. According to Bert Ulrich of NASA’s Public Services Division, older members of staff at NASA remembered the old meatball insignia with fondness as it represented NASA in the Apollo days, before the 1986 Space Shuttle tragedy. The Newport News Daily Press suggested in an article published on May 23, 1992 that Paul Holloway, then director of NASA’s Langley Research Center, may have dealt the death blow to the worm in a conversation with Goldin. “You know how to lift the morale of NASA?” Holloway reportedly asked Goldin. “You can do it by changing the worm.”
Cringe boomers and a jew administrator took it away

what do you think will happen to a settlement on Mars eventually?
We must push and push and push, but it will not be clean or linear. For our very first attempt to work would be miraculous, and I wouldn't count on it. Making a self sustaining civilization on Mars is insanely difficult. It will require the political, social and economic power to remain in place for a hundred years without interruption.

Centuries from now when men return with superior machines, they will look on what we did and marvel.

In the replies, there is picrel. Isaacman is a Vast knower, and Haot again presents the sanity of Vast. They arent planning big things immediatly, it happens step by step, piece by piece.

Also FYI they have updated their website, looks like plans beyond LEO have been made. Will do a summary of this soon.

>In early 1943, two days after the death of Nikola Tesla, the Federal Bureau of Investigation ordered the Office of Alien Property Custodian to seize Tesla's belongings.[9] Trump was called in to analyze the Tesla artifacts, which were being held in government custody.

Donald Trump mentioned his uncle John Trump in the Rogan interview.
This uncle was a professor at MIT, the same institution that contracts with Bezos to do "sub-orbital" "experiments".
Coincidentally, he was also one of the people asked to recover sensitive document's from Nikola Tesla's hotel room after his passing.

>In 2022, ARCA announced the AMi Exploration Initiative, effectively pivoting its business model away from the commercial launch sector and towards cryptocurrency and asteroid mining. The AMi program will utilize the AMi Cargo vehicle and EcoRocket Heavy to mine valuable materials from asteroids. Beginning in the late 2020s, the company plans to start a series of asteroid mining missions to return valuable metals (mostly platinum) to Earth for sale. It intends to fund this venture primarily through the sales of the AMi token, an upcoming cryptocurrency on the Ethereum blockchain. Since then, it appears ARCA is shifting its main focus away from AMi, and towards the CER/military-related programs.

I'm excited for the alternate reality where Blue Origin is actually a competitor in space but all they have at the moment is some very cool looking aerospace tech in various states of disassembly, and no fucking numbers about the vehicles performance at all.
They scrapped almost the entire project in 2021 when re-designing the second stage to be re-usable. All that we know is "Big rocket. 7 engines on booster.". There's no specs that still apply at all, other than confirmed numbers of implosions/explosions.

Musk is retard-tier when it comes to civics unfortunately.

His system would result in factionalism, and people who aren't qualified to work on a given system voting down the more relevant ideas of people who actually are simply because they have more people.
Basically it turns Mars into a popularity contest.

Instead of having a system where the best people from each section are elevated through election by their peers to govern as part of a command team, you have one where mediocrity, the lowest common denominator, and regression to the mean will reign instead.

The adversarial system wouldn't work on Mars, at least not in it's early period.

But that means that the security section could have a lot of undo influence over judiciary proceedings.
Can't think of a way to balance this out.

>>16452241
That indeed is a problem with mass democracy.
Maybe you noticed.
In Earth political schemes, citizens aren't split up into blocs based on the critical systems they are collectively responsible for operating and maintaining.
No, every person votes for their single representative regardless of their use to society. This causes them to split into monolithic red team/blue team on a national level.

Key difference here is there wouldn't be a reason to factionalize since regardless of the size of any given section they only have one seat on the council, and maybe a backup in case something happens. This means a large group can't simply dominate Mars politics.

That's why I have divided the citizens into sections responsible for electing an expert from among them to the Supreme Council, and decided to periodically shift a fraction of each section to another section for cross training as a matter of protocol.

This fosters a broadening of competence and critical redundancies in case of injury or sickness, along with a sense of interconnectedness and camaraderie between sections that would otherwise grow increasingly distant and eventually come to odds over some retarded vote they all have to worry about.

All that mitigates this inherent difficulty with voting on everything because that task has been delegated to the most qualified people from each section as chosen by that section.

Not unions.
You seem to be fixated on this as a "labor" issue.
Labor unions come from disputes between workers and employers as to compensation.

The sections on Mars would be responsible for operating systems that, if even one should fail, would cause the colonists do die in agonizing fashion.
Continuing to survive in a hostile envirome IS the compensation, the classical Earther labor dynamics wouldn't even exist.

That's why these people and the systems they operate need to have equal representation in government.
No one system is superflurous, each one needs to be operating for the colony to survive and the primary functions of the state so constituted should be to ensure they continue operating.

Does money generate energy?
No, money is a placeholder for the barter system at the end of the day. It's a tool we use to make exchange between two interested parties easier.

Money is going to be irrelevant to any early Mars colony because everyone involved will be a single interested party.
At that point, economic exchange of any substance will be between them and Earth.
Earth quite naturally be interested in investing in Martian endeavors with the idea of extracting some value for themselves out of it.

But the entire Mars project is about making life interplanetary, not Earth profit margins.
Profits will play a role in getting people on board to that end, but as soon as you start restricting access to life sustaining necessities like fucking air based on who is willing to suck your cock, other colonists are going to start thinking about killing you instead.

>You don't need to integrate it into the command structure.
Command is very interested in their life support, power, and communications working as intended.

They will appropriately have the authority to enact legistlation designed to ensure that continuing functionality, to detain and try those who would interfere with those essential functions, and in the event of an emergency elect from among their number a dictator to see out the crisis if they were unable to reach a unanimous consensus on mitigation.

>FEMA is notoriously worse than a collection of Baptist charities.
FEMA isn't elected by the people.

The Supreme Council would do a better job than FEMA because they would actually be aware when their communication systems fail.

these basedfi works with gatling guns on spaceships are so silly.
Real space combat will be like naval combat on mega steroids.
Ships engage from maximum distancce only limited by the curvature of the earth and the fact that projectiles lose energy to the atmosphere.
The only limit to engagement distances in space combat will be the delta v you can impart on projectiles. Exchanges of fire will take place over months or years. The only safety will be being very deep or very far out of the suns gravity well giving you a high relative velocity to incoming projectiles making them easier to avoid. gatling guns are useless. if you destroy an incoming projectile there is no atmosphere for the fragments to lose their kinetic energy to.

which is a problem when trying to governmentally operate on a colony wide level under direct democracy

even if one section is smaller than another, both should have an equal say in government if their roles are equally essential to the operations of the colony as a whole

those exceptional individuals and their skillset will eventually become known to the people they work with regularly, which is exactly why procedures should be instituted for their peers to elevate said individuals to the highest seat of power

I agree.
Have personally seen what happens when someone for example wants to build a barn, does it better than any approved contractor could because they have the knowledge, but is made by the state to halt work until they do all the autism shit the pencilpushers want.

Basically every corporation you can imagine working in space would have to report to these regulators because they are based in certain nations.
This is why SpaceX has to report to the FAA, which is unelected.
Which is why any Martian government should be independent of Earth corpos.

If Earth corpos want to do buisness on Mars, they should have to respond to the Martian government. Not an Earth one.
Now imagine Earther government response when independent corporations are founded on Mars.
It's gonna be bad.

aeroplanes dodge anti aircraft missiles by pulling maneuvres and confusing the computer guiding the missile. asuming computers get better then confusing them will get harder and the role of human pilot will largely be replaced by computers making reaction time irrelivant. the primary defense will be maneuvre, so the way to be at an advantage is if the enemy missile doesnt have much maneuvring fuel left after the burn to intercept you.

>If your have enough fuel for course correction then you remain precise at any range.
If you refer to the weapons themselves that means that all warfare out there is going to be composed of drones, in some form of another, then those drones have to get close to bring their ordnance to effective range, aka a range that the enemy cannot reasonably scape from and from which the error of shooting/exploding is acceptable, because even if it is a gatling gun or a laser is not going to always perfectly align with the target at absolutely any distance
>making reaction time irrelivant
Even if "internal" reaction time is 0 and you have perfect information, it is not the same knowing whether you have 5 seconds or 5 minutes to calculate a maneuver that is optimal for your an unoptimal for the enemy, ie: Maybe your engines do not have the adequate thrust to push you away in time or maybe for simply swiveling the turrets to shoot down the incoming projectiles(a destroyed projectile does not maneuver nor explode within your vicinity).

A hypothetical scenario: The enemy throws his drones, the mission o these drones is to get close enough to explode their Casaba-Howitzers. If they are 6 hours away from me it is a battle of deltaV because I am going to try to outspend them before they reach their kill zone, if they are 6 seconds away the best I can do is try to wiggle a lot and hope, but in no part of this scenario the range never stops mattering, because the drones do have a kill zone that depends on their inherent precision, the speed of their ordnance, the probability of kill according to the enemy's ability to react(in time and space) and the enemy's actual defenses.
PD: Also I just realized that we have reached a point where we might consider missiles suicide drones and revisionists will refer to missiles as primitive suicide drones and rockets as self propelled bullets.

>If they are 6 hours away from me it is a battle of deltaV because I am going to try to outspend them before they reach their kill zone, if they are 6 seconds away the best I can do is try to wiggle a lot and hope
In both scenarios survivng is a matter of your delta v vs the drone. If you have less delta v than the drone then the only variable is how long it takes you to be destroyed. Being high or deep in the suns gravity well is not really about time to intercept and more about the fact that something intercepting you will have spent a lot of delta v to get to you.
At the ranges and velocities of space combat you would want to intercept a drone with a drone. Bullets are useless. It's like trying to shoot a jet down with a rifle but at dozens of times the relative velocity and thousands of times the range. Dumb munitions will be tools of earther primitives

this issue is thermal flux. if the raptor is on the surface of the moon for a month getting slowly roasted on one side and frozen on the other, this could cause a problem (yes i know the sun does rotate from your perspective onthe moon, but there is no atmosphere to conduct heat away)

No, the judicial system is primarily about correcting harms that have already occurred. An ideal society, and especially one with minimal laws, must focus on prevention. The current civil legal system enriches only lawyers and ghetto lottery winners. The current criminal justice system punishes the innocent and the guilty in almost equal measure, and doesn't rehabilitate criminals.
