heres a copy of the article that was debunked, its important to note in reading this that all of the data in the article was produced fraudulently with the intention of "proving" the conclusions reached by the authors. they needed to falsify their data because the real data proves that the opposite of what is claimed in the paper is true

anyone with more than 5 seconds of experience in financial markets can tell you that 20% probability outperformance gain from a single factor like diversity is either miscomputed, misrepresented, or not causal and mostly just correlation. For example, their top outperforming companies are more likely to be the giants consistently doing well so they can hire more non-essential people, which they use to fill out ESG/DEI scores for brownie points or other reasons

No surprise. Anybody with a brain could debunk their claims without even looking at any data.
Even if you grant their data was legit, it only observes correlation.
They took this correlation and sold everybody the causation:
diversity -> better performance

With a few brain cells, one could simply posit the causation was really:
better performance -> diversity
That is, companies that are succeeding can afford to waste more money on useless diversity ornaments. Which is really the case found in OP's linked paper.

This pattern of taking a correlation then selling everyone the wrong causation is EVERYWHERE.
