Avi Loeb is a notorious scammer, but the rest of astronomers aren't much better. The best of them are little more than useless star gazers. Anything they might ever hope to discover by looking at space will never produce economically or industrially relevant results on Earth. Every dollar given to them is a dollar wasted.

In the past, most of the famous astronomers funded their own activities by providing astrological services to rich patrons. Astronomers loath to admit this today, and sperg out whenever somebody mentions astrology because they're ashamed of their fortune telling past. But this is what they should be doing today. They should no longer receive public funding and instead should sell their "services" to people who might be interested. The fact that their only commercially valuable service is astrology says a lot about the worth of their field.
