Thanks. So I feel like I'm getting dumber month by year. I trip over my own words, I get things mixed up all the time like referring to a movie with another's title or referring to a character in a book with another's name. I forget things (Details, names, etc. Never my own personal history). Even my reaction times and processing speeds are slowing down (can no longer read moves in fighting games like I used to be able to).
I'm only 25. It didn't used to be like this. I used to be charismatic, clever even.

you are experiencing brain fog (not to say brain damage) from psych drugs. at this point it's impossible to tell if it's withdrawals, interactions, abstinence, tolerance, side effects or who the fuck knows.
talk to your psychiatrist and try to taper all that shit away very slowly. or what you are going to be taking psych drugs your entire life - how is that a sustainable option?

I've been on amphetamines for so long that I don't even know who I would be without them. My tolerance has gotten so high that back when I had adderall I was taking 60mg XR a day with 15mg instant if I needed to be up past 10:00. On the days where I don't take it I just want to lie in bed and eat all day. I'm barely even human. If the "real" me is so worthless should I really try to stop?
Also I thought amphetamines are a neurotropic. Shouldn't that help with this instead of harm it? And why is it happening so suddenly despite years of use?

you've been taking the drug for 10 years, your brain has rewired it's chemistry around it. You said it yourself - tolerance. Insane to me how average people get it right but the average doctor reaches for even more meds like this guy>>16090522
>Also I thought amphetamines are a neurotropic. Shouldn't that help with this instead of harm it?
idk about that desu
>And why is it happening so suddenly despite years of use?
a possible explanation is that short term use of drugs doesn't affect cognition but long term use does - that's true for most if not all drugs with psychotropic effects
>(Not being hostile, you're the expert. I just want to understand)
i'm not a psychiatrist, but am neurology resident. i've just seen so many people referred with the weird symptoms (cognitive or a movement disorder, tics etc) 'hey doc what's up with me' and they are on a cocktail of psych meds, we do the workup it reveals nothing and we conclude it's something to do with the drug and sometimes taking them off (slowly) helped. I understand those are anecdotes.

by the way i'm not saying categorically it's the drugs for you. nor am i saying you should stop them, but you should ask your psychiatrist. am just sharing my take which is very weak over a 4chan post. I don't think it's controversial to suggest that maybe a 25 year old should try to not be on drugs forever and a day of course in cooperation with their psychiatrist

Again, they're not conscious being. They're golem, robots, NPCs. Any common sense they may have had, however unlikely that is, was trained out of them long ago. They're borderline weaponized. Don't trust anything that comes out of their mouth, they're agents of their masters, the drug companies. They're castrated in mind and in spirit, and fact is, you might as well add body to that list. Well, I grew up believing this. Basically as above so below, as within so without, so naturally you assume man collectively goes through a prolonged process of development, separation individuation, adolescence, and so on, just as it occurs in the individual, and we're all like cells conducting this process within the greater body. I'm no longer so attached to this idea but I do understand where you're coming from.

I know it's basically what the guy in the short said but honestly I don't see why neuro and psych are distinct fields, trying to divorce the subjective experience of the patient (i.e., the manifestation of mental illness) from the physical underpinnings of their neurology (and vice versa) is like trying to divorce the physical process of a heart attack from the patient's searing chest pain. To that end, the rivalry makes no sense.

>> No.16092034

>I don't see why neuro and psych are distinct fields
The answer is simple, medicine was architected to not be effective. It's designed for high throughput, reductionistic and compartmentalized practitioners who function as drug dispensers and are easily trained replaceable parts for the machine. That's it, seriously. It's that simple. Allopath(et)ic medicine is 100% divorced from anything resembling a holistic perspective, they don't want people who are able to think getting in the way and screwing things up. It's that way by design, it's how the architects wanted it. And so it was, and shall be, and shall remain.

Also I neglected to mention the infighting is also deliberate. It creates drama, envy, and maintains comaprtmentalization. This has been the method of control going back to ancient Egypt. It literally never changes, it is braindead simple (KISS principle), and it works.

Humans are just that stupid. All of their most base impulses are so easily tapped and they love the sensations.

You don't see the problem there? I'll explain it.

Pneumonia isn't a fever, cough, phlegm and shortness of breath. It's a bacterial infection in the lung for example - it's something the pathologist can diagnose. Pneumonia as a diagnosis isn't the symptoms. A diagnosis is the process itself. That's what people mean when they say the word pneumonia it's shorthand for some physical process. A diagnosis isn't the same entity as the symptoms. STEMI isn't chest pain with ECG changes, it's an occlusion of a cardiac artery.

Depression isn't a diagnosis in the same sense as pneumonia is. Depression IS the symptoms. If you have depression then that means you have the symptoms. If you have the symptoms then you have depression. It's a tautology. When you say depression you are in some sense just rephrasing the symptoms basically.

Why do you think they believe that? It's because doctors told them so - doctors repeat the line that progress, science, drugs, technology will save us. It's something big capital, pharma, the state has created as a myth that doctors follow and perpetuate. When in fact a lot of our interventions are minimally effective or worse. That includes all psychiatric interventions regardless of the reasons being. And by getting annoyed about people 'bitching about psyche' you are shooting yourself in the foot actually.

A diary journal is about 300-310 pages long not including the pages for notes and things, so if all of the conditions and diseases were transferred from one book to three journals and each was one per day (or 2 per day and you did 6 journals), then you would've filled up three years and worked for that amount of time in learning all of them by the end of it which takes you to about the end of med school (and then you can spend a year learning.about the best organ)

Maybe it's better to look at the psychosocial causes of mental health problems. Things such as abuse, neglect, poverty, bullying, stress, etc.

Or, at least, don't neglect the psychosocial causes. Some people might well have a higher genetic risk of mental health problems for whatever reason, but psychosocial causes of mental health problems are also critically important.

I thought this exact same thing myself. I've been a psych patient and I was trying to think of the difference between psych diagnoses and other medical diagnoses. And what you said is exactly what I ended up thinking. "Major depression" is just a description of symptoms, not of a specific, identifiable physical dysfunction.

When someone is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, we know that their body isn't producing enough insulin. But "major depression" does not seem to be a case of the body not producing enough serotonin, for instance.

Psychiatry, in a perfect world, should be equal parts biological analysis and analytical psychology, but unfortunately the research into the biological causes of psychiatric maladies is so young that it's only at the point of correlation. There's just not enough data yet to link the two, although I'm happy to see that more and more research is being undertaken to understand potential physiological pathologies in context of actually connecting the word neuroses with biological causes, finally. Analytical psychology, at this point, is the psychiatrist's most potent tool.

Again, this is a clamped take. Which is why you were denied the 888 trips. I understand the model you're operating from but it's misguided. The world is not "emergent", it's not "chaotic", it's not a cube that was made and everyone forgot why if anyone ever knew, it's not a great and mindless body destroying itself in ignorance because it cannablized its own brain. It's simply the logical conclusion of a system working as intended, it was architected for this and is still being actively modulated to remain on script and within range.

Though it could be compared to an algae bloom. However this was done deliberately as well. You're not more intelligent or emotionally detached or stronger or whatever by "facing" that the world is chaotic and humans create stories to make sense of it. You should consider taking a break from school and focusing on your health and decide if you really want to be in school. There are plenty of things you can do other than college. I went to college at 26 and got into an MD school with a 3.89 and no research.

Try emailing the professor, the worst they can say is no.

That being said you should consider whether you really want to be a doctor. It doesn't get easier than undergrad. If you're not in the headspace to compete and get your shit in on time maybe wait until later in life.

Psychiatry has many problems:
>it can detain people against their will
>it can drug people against their will
>it doesn't do enough research into the potential harms of its drugs
I can understand detaining a person if you think they might harm others, but I don't think drugging them against their will is humane.

Psychology can be good. Psychology looks at the events in a person's life that have brought about their emotional distress. Psychiatry might say "well, genetic dispositions are important". But are they? We don't even know which genes contribute to mental health problems, or how they do so. Why don't we look at the real problems in people's lives? Bullying, financial insecurity, abuse, stress, grief, etc. These are the things that cause mental health problems for most people. It is inhumane to make a human believe that their brain is permanently defective when, actually, they are often just a victim of life circumstances. Even if it's true that some people have a greater genetic risk of mental health problems, patients don't have their genomes sequenced. So a psychiatrist has NO IDEA what the genetic risk of a particular patient is.

genetics in medicine is a meme imo
I understand some illnesses are clearly monogenic and that's important knowledge, but most of the genetics research in medicine is spitballing guesswork
like you are going to sequence the entire genome and find 100 potential risk factors lmao. Overdiagnosis would explode
this is why personalized medicine is without hope. We already are doing personalized medicine, that's why you go to your doctor.
you'll notice the hype around genes has died out a little
anyways, of course flawed genetics concepts would be hopeless with psychiatry considering psych is the worst branch of medicine anyways

You guys know how geography is basically a dead science? That's medicine to some extent.

On the thyroid page it includes thyrotoxicosis and mentions the other one as a thing it's confused with, and lists at page 203 thyrotoxicosis as a cause of nail detachment from the bed, but on the page for that (nails: 76) lists hyperthyroidism as a cause. So does Cleveland clinic
And on 62 or 72 (palamar erythema) puts chronic renal failure as a cause by it having less inactivation of vasoactive endotoxins by the liver, and this is right after it mentions hyperthyroidism in the list. But the vasoactive endochrines are stored in the posterior pituary gland, made in the hippocampus as it says in the page close.to 203 and now I'm doubting everything!

With the vasopressin being ADH/AVP,
And the (hyper)thyroidism being a different gene, different (anterior) pituary gland and the overproduction of TSH surely

it was probably just a poorly run test where the trial lens wasn't situated correctly in front of one eye but was for the other or you were using the wrong chin rest for one eye.
either that or you had some damage somewhere in front of the optic chiasm or (rarely) had some sort of brain damage.

regarding your test, your visual fields overlap, so missing your nasal field in one eye wont cause that big of a problem especially if your VF was macula sparing.

Obviously. I haven't seen one actual medically pertinent psychiatric post in this general, just shit flinging and people crying about retards getting hospitalized against their will for the protection of the community.

Yeah but you'll need to take the pre-reqs. I have classmates with degrees in CS, Business, Physics, Criminal Justice etcetera.

None with retard degrees though, so if you're communications, math, English, history etcetera you're fucked.

That's what bureaucratization does to people. Little tyrants in their little offices.

>Death to the managerial class.
There is a place for it, the Inventor tends to be a terrible employ manager, I would be, far too empathetic.

Hence why I push people to be more resilliant, so they *could* be a student...but alas, I will not know those students...

So I teach the Magnetic Field of the planet instead.

More like would ignore blatant issues ahead so they can happen so you can "feel productive or a savior" while the patient is harmed in the process.

I have done a "tour" in hospitals and know all their pofessions.

gay men flock to it because it's traditionally seen as a female job, even though men really are a lot better at it given how much lifting nurses have to do

I barely ever meet gay doctors so idk where you get this

Just got a job as a PCT at a local hospital. It’s not my ideal but it’s better than waiting tables and it’s a chance to get hospital experience while I’m still in school. Any advice?
