16057530 No.16057530 [Reply] [Original]

"I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in human evolution. We became too self aware; nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself. We are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self, a secretion of sensory experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody’s nobody. I think the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight, brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal."

this is the correct answer. plato's cave is real. the brain is stuck in a dark room and performs reverse inference to model the reality of senses. it's all super fake and gay illusion created by the brain to keep itself alive

Anyway, I don't agree with any of that. None of it can be justified, rationally or empirically. There are atoms, so what? Of course everything is made of something. So we looked and saw a little of what we're made of. We understand it mathematically to a limited extent. What does that tell us about the nature of consciousness or our being? Nothing.

what is your question? if i gave you two identical machines then their function in similar environments would be similar. explanations of reality are compelling because the structure of the brain makes it possible across individuals enforces constraints on what can be inferred from the senses. fish have a different structure and so you don't worry about what is compelling reverse inference of reality for the fish
